Hi Guys...can someone advise me as to the towing capacity of a 2005 Territory and is the transmission okay with the towing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

if memory serves me well it should be 2.5 tonn, but if you are planning a lot of towing, I'd strongly suggest getting a transmission cooler.

Cheers

Hi mate,

If you have the heavy-duty tow pack, the max allowable is 2300kg, with the standard towpack its 1600kg if my memory serves me correctly. Hope this is of some help.

Thanks for your help guys.....it looks a given that a transmission cooler will have to be added and the one I inspected today has a 1650kg towbar. I am even starting to think about holding off until the new Territory comes out with the V8.....depends I guess on how many dollards Ford will want for one!

Hey Dog,

I wouldnt hold my breath waiting for a V8 Territory when Fraud already have a performance variant in the Territory IE Turbo I6. I reckon the major re-engineering involved for a small selling specialist version would be prohibitive (Please correct me if Im wrong.. :msm:) cost wise... Still, the thought of it is quite tempting, especially if they use a supercharged version! The Turbos tow easily enough and power-up as effectively and cheaply as any T or F6. Still, makes interesting food for thought.

A better more likely bet will be a diesel territory. Which apparently is just around the corner

cheers

The Turbo Territory will finnish up next month (June 2010) and there are no v8 models.

The Turbo Territories are also limited to 1600kg max towing capacity. The Diesal T is not due until next year and will have the Rover 3lt v6 turbo motor apparently.

I would not recomend a Terry for regular towing duties such as going around Oz in a caravan. You would be better with a Landcruser/Patrol/Disco4 as they are more designed for this type of work. The Territory is a softroader and more for passengers than towing.

I am a bit surprised by your comment about not using a TTG for regular towing.

Not that I would ever use our TTG for towing.

As for towing, each to their own.. Ours tows the car trailer and tarmac rally Capri well, towing mass 2200kg and its no problem. Surprised to hear the Teritory Ghia Turbo is only limited to 1600kg, sounds like another Zap typo eh? Have to consult the manual and see what the go is, seeing as the factory made 2300kg towing packages for a vehicle limited to 1600kg?? Time to dig deeper.,
