I thought the best burnout in an XR6Turbo would be in somebodies elses XR6T!

That way you don't stuff you're own tyres, and don;t run the risk of getting your own car confiscated. Quite frankly, burnouts are about as interesting as cardboard.

The real interesting thing is when you have a car on full noise going into a tight corner and holding the fastest mid corner speed that you dare!

You forgot to add how stupid and dangerous they are. Wanna see something really stupid. Go and watch the Burnout comp at Summernats. People cheer when tyres get shredded and engines blow (I was there cos I had to be). If you try hard enough you can spin the wheels of any car, no skill whatsoever in it.

I think if you have watched the Burnout comp at the Summernats or any other main stream one you would have seen a great variety of skills from the participants.

I dont think you could say that the guys and girls who win these comps dont have great car control. (both motor and streering)

To be able to keep the wheels going through the gears and being able to use up every inch of road while keeping the cars off the railings with all that smoke is an art.

Doing it a carpark however is not :-)

Until very recently, I have been driving with my traction control on. That's the default state and it's easy just to leave it that way.

Lately though, I've been making a habit of getting into the car and turning the headlights (low beam) on and the traction control off. B)

Now maybe I'm imagining it, but I swear the car is just a little more responsive and definately a lot more fun to drive. The feeling of almost losing the back end and then getting it back under control is just a hoot! :lol:

I do leave TC on in the wet though ... not that stupid. [resist the urge to comment on that, you know who I'm talking to .... ]

I still haven't got the guts to turn traction control off.

I haven't turned the TC off in mine either. It's not that I'm not game, it's just I can't afford to burn $1100 - plus run the risk of VG and friends fining me or worse. If you really want to do a burnout enter the Summernats.

There was a link on here a while to a video of a XR6T doing a mad burnout, it was from fullboost.com but doesn't seem to be there any more.

I still reckon the best Burnout I've ever seen on video was a lowly 2L FWD at one of the biggest Chrysler shows int he US a couple of years back...

The guy lit the car up, ran it longer than the appointed permitted time bouncing off the limiter in 2nd gear with the crowd going nuts int he background. He did a lot of work at that meet to break the Big Block or go home syndrome (and running 13s with full interior powered by NA 2L helped as well)....

I have to say I'm not keen to light up any car just for show these days - tyres and driveline parts are too pricey

Oh geez, how many party poopers are out there. Firstly, I wouldn't use my normal Dunlops, they cost way too much and what a waste. Do you actualy think people are that stupid?? I would use the set of cheap retreads that I bought and have on a spare set of wheels. God damit, I can see why people get the sh_ts with the police negativity sometimes. I wouldn't do them where I could annoy anyone, I would do them on a legal burnout pad, of which in Queensland there are plenty. Why critisize someone who wants to enjoy themselves in THEIR own car. Dangerous? If you can control the car then I wouldn't say it's dangerous, and... what's more If I were a cop, I'd rather a kid be doing a burnout then be speeding down the road at 200kph, wouldn't you? Tell me that Gary Myers doesn't have skill to do burnouts with his monster?? or that burnouts don't require skill. Sounds like an oppinion of someone who has never been there and enjoyed such events, or someone who knows nothing about them.

Argh, moderators flame me if you will, the kid just wanted to know how to do a simple burnout, I see no harm in it. I bet when you were his age you did the exact same thing, and if you say you didn't your bullsh_tting, and if you really really didn't, then you haven't the right to critisize someone else because you had a missed opportunity at his age. Burnouts can be fun, on a LEGAL pad. I think it's the right of the owner to do whatever they will. And with so many in attendance of events like Summernats, you could hardly call them a minority. :cussing:

A very valid point and I only replied in the negative to the original question as I was under the (obviously mistaken) impression that the question was how to do a burnout in the Turbo, which, (in most cases here) would mean the car is driven on a public street.

Myers and co are very talented at what they do and they have the equipment to do it with. This is vastly different to an XR6Turbo.

I stand by my view that they're dumb and irresponsible and there is more enjoyment and skill involved in being able to balance a big heavy car at full noise through a corner.

As far as burnouts in an organised competition, fantastic, and more people should be doing them there. However, I don;t think the original intention of the question was about organised burnout comps with an XR6Turbo.
