Hey guys, I have recently purchased a set of Kumho KU36 Semi slicks to do a hillclimb, and im wondering if anybody has any idea what the best tyre pressures would be to start off? or if anyone has used these tyres on the track before and what their experience with them was.

Cheers

I have used them at Marulan and Wakefield park.

They are a good bang for your buck tyre but not in the same league as the Toyo R888's I am currently using.

They are a sticky road tyre and not really a full R-rated semi slick.

They squeal a bit which help determine the adhesion limits. Mid corner grip is good.

I use them for rears on the road.

Tirerack did a comprehensive test of them here:

Testing the New Extremes of Extreme Performance Summer Tires

FRom tirerack:

Kumho Ecsta XS (Extreme Performance Summer 225/45R17)

What We Liked: Excellent ultimate dry cornering traction

What We'd Improve: Wet traction and steering precision

Conclusion: The perfect tire for drivers wanting ultimate dry cornering grip

Latest Test Rank: 4th

yeah that's good info thanks for that, I'll be using them at phillip island next month for a round of the aus hillclimb championship, so I'll post up my feedback.

From my research I think they're the best tyre for the least amount of money, which is good enough reason to buy them I reckon, especially for a street/track car, not just a dedicated track car.

thanks for the info!

I've actually been looking at these...

How would people rate these tyres compared to Marangoni Mythos?

Crappiest tyres I have egver used! They had shocking straight line grip & very poor wet weather characteristics...

If you're after a good tyre that wont break the bank, look into TOYO R1R's!

How much are they? the Kumhos are so cheap, and to be fair they're not classed as a full "semi slick", they're more like a soft road tyre with a semi tread pattern, so you cant expect the full performance of a semi out of them. But for $780 a set delivered, I dont see how you can go wrong

Have heard them to be bad in the wet. Very good pricing though, 4 17 inch for under $800 delivered to your door, that's hard to ignore!

Once I get tuned I may look at the R1Rs if they are double the price as I'll only need two. Wet weather matters to me as it's my daily, but on a track, perhaps not so bad? Edit - by which I mean, race in the dry!

I use these on the street as my rears, with the ku31's on the front to get rid of water. Living in a place that averages 10mm of rain per day I'm not going to try them on the front.
