Hey guys,

Was wondering if anyone has had their T5 manual gearboxes stengthened and how much power it would hold?

Reason being is a friend of mine is looking at getting it done and possibly myself. I know I would be better off converting to the T56 gearbox but am very strapped for cash and car needs maintenance repairs as well.

Thanks in advance.

All ready looked into this for my car and have spoken to various companies and people including malwood and its not really possible to strengthen a T5.

I mean a few people told me that when there is a will there is away so there is little bits and pieces you could do with bearings and so on but they ALL told me that any of that would cost far more than just doing a T56 conversion.

Its an annoying situation cuz im also in it, but ive narrowed it down to either: run the T5 beyond is capability by modding ya T and take ya chances/hope for the best or get yaself a t56

Already Modded my car with Nizpro injectors and custom tune making 260rwkw and clutch is slipping...

If I put a slightly stronger clutch in, which there isn't much out there, the gearbox may go. :turboboink:

There is a TKO upgrade for the T5 that is popular with the AC Cobra owners and some track cars, however I was told it would not hold up to a modded T.

If yours has not broken yet, then just baby it and save up for a T56 as it is only a matter of time before it goes :roflmbo:

The T56 option should be your only choice if you want to keep a manual.

well its good yours is still holding up at 260rwkw cuz most people on here believe the T5 breaks straight away after you mod the car. how long you been running 260 for?

Because you could go to malwood or exedy clutch to stop that slipping but then like you said the slipping is prob the only thing keeping your box alive.

What did simon from nizpro say to you after you got the tune for 260rwkw, did he tell you to take it easy on it cuz of the box?

How come the TKO upgrade wont hold up on the modded T's?

Whats PPG cobramad?

The problem with the TKO upgrade is the casing will not hold it all together.

I had a new XR6 T5 in 2004 and did the research and found that there were limited choices for strengthing the 5sp boxes.

Also why would you whent he T56 is so much a better box.
