Drol Member 9 Member For: 14y 7m 9d Gender: Male Location: Melbourne Posted 14/04/10 12:36 PM Share Posted 14/04/10 12:36 PM Following my recent post on FG F6 traction control problems, I get the general feeling there is no solution for getting a good take off (even by easing into full throttle) without traction problems. Suggestions varied form "easing" into the throttle (30% etc.) to just getting used to insigating a burnout comp at the lights. So I am wondering about the more practical possibility of wider 265 or 275 tyres. Problem is I have 20/9" dark Argent wheels. I am also told the FG rear guard does not have enough room for such wide tyres...Can anyone tell me the maximum width tyre I can fit to the dark Argent 20/9" rim? How about the rear guard? And, will 265/275 tyres actually make much difference to the traction problem I am currently having on take off? Thanks for your inputs. Cheers, Darol. However, think you will need a 10" rim to run 275's.Karl from Hiro performance had some good deals on Federal Evo's a little while back. He has them on his ute and told me that over all grip had greatly improved over the standard tyers and his running with over 400rwkw.I will be changing over to these shortly or if I can find some in the country, the Nitto NT 05.Ben

I quite like the dark Argent wheels so I will stick to these. Pitty they only come in 9". I'd like to know how wide I can go on these wheels - 265 wihtout bulge? What about the rear guard - any clearance problems? My F6 is lowered so I am concerned about the clearance issue. so, I wouldnt mind getting some advice on just how wide a tyre can fit the 9", then I'll see if there is a problem with the guard clearance. Thanks, Darol. Obviously they are not the best performing tyre on the market, but at $250ish a tyre I dont think they can be beaten if budget is a consideration. They do come in a 245, 255 and 275 in a 20inch also. ZAP No boost, no bottle, just my foot on the throttle! Lifetime Members 7,935 Member For: 20y 9m 6d Gender: Male Location: Sydney Posted 15/04/10 01:47 AM Share Posted 15/04/10 01:47 AM Ummm Drol, you may find your rims are 8" not 9" as I have not seen any Argents wider than 8" on the market. If that is the case, then 245's is all you can fit. Also your Pirelli P Zeros are a great tyre, so most suggestions here will be a step down.Short of getting Mickey Thompson drag radials, you will need to adjust your driving style to solve the problem. Just make sure they are the P Zero top tyre and not the Nero etc.I feel your pain with trying to get the car off the line cleanly. It's very difficult with street tyres.Benny Edited 15/04/10 02:40 AM by Benny

For really sticky tyres Simon at XFT over here uses R888's on his ute I think? Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that but he used to have 275 or 285 Conti's and they lit up at 1cm of throttle at 30km/h on the road...as I experienced! Fun but very impractical.
