I have avidly read the posts from JJ and plonky and everyone else in between, and all I can say is WOW!

You guys are both right but worlds apart!

In a gaol, the inmates are stuck there, with no where to run to, no recourse, lots of frustration and lots of pent up anxiety and anger, so you are their target for that reason JJ, and you know and understand this. Your job is not only peace keeper but also part psych and counsellor.

On the other hand, a police officer doesn't have the luxury of knowing where his offenders will be at all times. He doesn't know that Mr XYZ is his offender, it could be anyone on the street, the car next to him, the female walking the dog, the man with the kiddie stroller...... any offence from a drug related incident, to violence to petty theft to disturbing the peace to murder to traffic infringement to heck, anything. These are people that must watch their backs at all times, that are on alert every second they are in the uniform, the call for anything could come.... Joe Public depends on them, makes demands on them, and dammit will lean on them regardless of how they are feeling and regardless of how much they have had to cope with, and if a police officer dares not deal with all that stress, well..... he will be in for a flogging from everyone, you just watch!!! Not only will Joe Public have his head on a platter, but then you have people like these "persons" in the story first mentioned that feel the need to prove their manhood by showing their mates they are tough enough.

Personally, I was going to apply to be a copper.... but I didn't think I was cut out for it. The shift work, the unforgiving nature of the job, the people who 9 out of 10 times don't bother saying thankyou, the attending accident scenes, the trying to make new friends and looks on peoples faces when you admit you are a police officer ~ like you have leprosy!

I used to get so mad, and think you ungrateful pieces of sh!t... now though.... there is no point to getting mad..... that is not what makes a police officer.

It takes guts and determination to get past all of what I have written, and still continue to do your job with pride and dignity. To put on that uniform everyday and get on with a job that most people hate you for, that they wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire. And it's those people that you have to change the attitudes of. And it was one of those people that confronted VG in the first place. And it was VG's reaction and eventual result that HAS changed this boys attitude.......

Whether it lasts, whether it results in anything, who knows, but the point is that he tried, and that he hasn't given up.

So the least we can do is not give up on VG or plonky either.

We may not totally agree with the methods of the madness, but the least we can do is give the guys kudos for doing the job.

It is hard to understand the reaction unless we too have done the same job (walked a mile in those shoes?) so lets all kill the little bastids that spit on the Anzac Memorials instead!!!!

Who's with me?

Could someone point me to the valaue of this thread? I really struggle with its vlaue on a Forum about the XR6 Turbo.

Now if we can take our morals and applt them to the releavance of the Fourm topics then we might get somewhere!

The posts on this thread really belong to another Political style Forum rather than one about Cars!

Not all topics are about our cars Dallas,I think if you don't like a certain subject then you have the freedom not to read it

It's one of the reasons it's such a great site

Dallas, don't you dare!

If this site was restricted to car-related content only, it would be a lesser version of what it is now.

The fact that people feel comfortable enough to air their feelings and opinions in public should be encouraged, not discouraged.

Everyone has the ability to choose the threads they read ... don't be like the old lady up on the bedroom dressing table, craneing her neck so she can see what the neighbours are doing, only to complain bitterly about their behaviour.

Viva La Free Speech!

I again see you point of view, however the dynamics of your position in the Gaol (Corrections.....Pwha!) is not the same as a crim on the outside openly challenging the people who have the capacity to legally restrict their liberty.

A bit assumptious isn't it??

Not all Corrections is inside a goal. I would have thought a police person would be aware of this.

Sorry JJ. I did assume and therefore I made an ass out of U and Me.

When you said Corrections, I straight away thought of a Gaol, with Corrections the 'nice ' name for a holding pen to keep these criminals away from the rest of the community.

Again I apologise for jumping to conclusions.

Though if I can pick you up on something, I'm a Police MAN not a Police person (I detest political correctness)

Cheers

OK, fair question

1 It lets people like VG and Plonky tell thier side of the story

2 it lets people like us tell VG and Plonky our side of the story

3 it lets us learn about Policing, like it or not, a part of high-performance car ownership gets us involved in (some of us anyway... )

3 I haven't read any slagging at each other in this thread, just people trying to understand each other, much as KEN says, it's a community.

Damn straight.

I have not been a member of a car club before, partly because I imagine it would be incredibly dull if all people did when they went to meets is talk about bloody cars (the other part of the reason being this is the first car I have had that is worthy of such a thing). Same goes with this site. If you started closing all threads that weren't car related, I for one would not be sticking around for long.

I will take (minor) issue with you on this though Ken. Dallas is a Moderator and, whilst he continues to volunteer for that position, does not really have the option of not reading through all these threads.

It's a really good point, Ani ... in fact, it may be my ultimate revenge. No matter what drivel I pour out onto the unsuspecting forum members, the moderators actually have to read it ... sweet.
