Hey Guys,

I have a 2006 BF Typoon with a ZF 6spd last nite I was in a car park with big BUMPS and I felt the car bottom out. about 5 min later I smelt burning oil. I had cracked the plastic sump on my gearbox. and the oil was pissing out. (still is)

first question is have I ruined the box it still ran fine changing just as smooth as ever.

could that 5 mins of leaking oil hurt the gearbox.

who in Sydney is equipped to deal with these and where do I get the parts. ( I want the Best Place possible)

oh by the way Fraud wanted 1300 to change oil and pan.

Cheers guys

I doubt you would have done any damage as long as no crud got into the box. As for the pan, ford might be your only choice to get one. Shouldn't be a huge job if you have a few basic tools to do it yourself. I presume $1,300 is supplied, fitted and serviced by ford.

You could try a few wrecking yards, but I would doubt they would be willing to separate the sump from the box.

Good Luck,

Ben

You should be fine.Get your tuner to do the job or one of the sites sponsors as they will be a lot cheaper than Fraud.

They will pay wholesale for the parts and you will not be anally raped for retail and labour

get onto motospecs - they will sell you genuine or aftermarket sump/filter assemblies. They will also be able to sell you a steel sump pan if you decide to go down that path.

They sell the genuine oil in 20L drums too

I paid 132 bucks I think for the filter from ford which is also the plastic sump you cracked and oil to suit in a 20ltr drum from my local parts shop for about 250 bucks I think penrite was the oil I bought I cant remember the grade the drums in the shed I can have a look tomorrow if needed

ive been using it for 60000km with no problems so far

also with supplying parts the local gearbox guy only charges me 140 bucks for an oil and filter change he also does all the local ford dealer work and has repaired a few zf boxes for ford the shop is based in wollongong though

in any case anybody charging more than 400 bucks for an oil and filter change using after market oil is ripping ppl off

cheers trev

Contact Ben at AutoPro Fairfield (Ph: 9727-6128), he should have in stock an aftermarket pan bottom, filter & 4 or 5 litre bottles (rather than a 20l drum) of the correct trans fluid to suit the ZF (can't remember which one it was he had).

the penrite oil I used meets the 6 speed zf gearbox requirments used in our cars and so do many other oils the box used in our cars has been around for years in other cars

unless you enjoy giving ford even more money the standard oil (Shell ATF M-1375.4) is nothing special regardless of what ppl on this site like to think and the only reason its so dear is because ford au own the rights to sell it simple as that supply and demand $$$$$$$
