I've got to say 1st and 3rd.

1st, suprises the passengers by the acceleration (it can really flick the neck back), and 3rd 'cause it just gets scary from then on ... it just keeps on goin!!!

OK people,

I’ll give you a totally different perspective, with 2 different views.

I’m the lone voice in the wilderness that chose 4th.

1. Not because of it’s speed, but because it’s what makes daily driving enjoyable.

In stock form the XR6T is not really that quick. I’m spoilt with 3 rexes that are quicker than the Ford, one substantially quicker.

1st gear has too much wheelspin or cutout to get away quick. Unless you have a quick rex you wouldn’t understand.

2nd gear is OK, but doesn’t do much for me.

3rd gear is a pig to get into, especially when changing down (maybe I have a bad box), otherwise does more for me than 1st & 2nd.

I do 70kms a day, some freeway, but most 60, 70 & 80k zones. The rexes simply can’t match the torque that the ford 4th gear has between 1750 & 3000 revs, which is 60kph to 100kph, which is where most driving is done. That is the reality of daily driving. That torque makes driving effortless. For me daily driving is not about speed, that’s for the track. 4th gear shines.

2. Once you get into the phase 2 to phase 4 mods that are coming, I guarantee 4th gear will be the gear you’ll love most. Having had a modified Calais Turbo with TO4 turbo the surge of acceleration in 4th gear when overtaking from 100kph is staggering. You hit 160-180 before you know it, and just hope Plonky or Velvet Glove aren’t coming the other way at the wrong time.
