Watched a current affairs today....had pedders $14 safety check on it.....Cars going in there for a $14 safety check, and them finding up $3000 worth of things wrong with their cars....WTF..A current affairs sent 3-4 cars to pedders stores in qld for the safety checks...all four cars were found to have faults..Bills of over a $1000 to repair....A current affairs took the cars to be inspected to some mechanical repair station like the MTA..all were found to have no faults...except one.....The car requiring $3000 worth of repairs was also found to have no faults...They even tried to sell finance to these customers...Telling one lady her car was dangerous to drive....Got to love their slogan NO BULL....But plenty of bull sh1t....

Yep....my daughter took her car (Toyota Starlet) in for one of these so-called "safety checks"......

Ive still got the report.....2 ball joints, 2 tie-rod ends, all 4 shocks, numerous bushes needed replacing etc etc.....would have cost her more than the car was worth....

Took it up to the guy who does my car and he says the rear shocks and one tie-rod end needs replacing....other than that, the car's tight as a drum and they (Pedders) must be on drugs.....

Got a tie-rod from Repco and two rear shocks from Pat (Wholesale Suspension) for a fraction of the cost of what Pedders wanted for the same items.....

Told her not to go back there again..... :beerchug:

No bull...yeah right :spit:

From what I understand is that everything they list may need replacing in next 3-6 months, they might list everything with $3,000 worth of suggested repairs.

BUT if you go there and they miss something, you have an accident relating to something they missed, there could be a large legal suit files against them.

I have been to the Pedders in Moorabbin, very please with service, car came back with one 1 item - front roll bar bushes on the way out.

People become dumber for watching ACA and today tonight!

Not to rub salt in the wound, but for those that didnt see it... :innocent:

This is why we invite our customers to have a look under the car when we do a safeety ceck, we also don't charge for the checks - if you do your job right, show the customer the problem, you will get the job. It is very easy to build a large bill on some models, but there is a lot of things that can be borderline too.

I took my car into Pedders Geebung and they did nothing like what ACA reported.

They were very informative and make suggestions of what should be changed to handle the increased power output of my car. They gave me a detailed report on what needs replacing now and what will need replacing in the near future while showing me what parts they were talking about while the car was on the hoist.

The total repair quote was a bit higher then what I could get the bushes replaced elsewhere, but that's why they have these $14 checks, to get people through the door. Also $14 wouldn't even cover the labour involved to do the check, so they need to get repairs.

Yes fair enough, the dealer that ACA went to may have been shonkey, doesn't mean they all are...

They are really expensive but TT and ACA usually talk it up abit for dramatic effect, and as said before if you do watch these shows you are in fact becoming more dumberer.

ahhhh TT/ACA, the armchair know it all's guide to surviving modern life !!! dont quite know how anyone with 0.00004% of operational grey matter can watch their tripe and believe any of it.. I reckon half of their budget goes on the dodgy re-enactments they feel the need to force on the viewer for everything including the most mundane of tasks.

Last episode I saw was of some long distance call rates amazing revelation or some crap and they just kept showing people operating this new fangled telephony device, like FFS who doesnt know what a phone looks like or how it operates.

Funny you all say this as a while ago I spoke on here of getting the rack and pinion replaced on my BA due to its clicking and clunking.

First stop was Pedders at Enoggera (Pickering st) in Brissy. I told them only to check the front steering to see if it was rooted and they quoted me $1000 for the replacement rack and he also recommended there full suspension package worth an additional $2000!

It took them little time which didn't matter but it was the bloke that thought he'd go for a quick test drive buy flogging it up the street that pissed me off. I had the low tune in at the time and spoke with him when he returned about it!

I paid $38 for this check only though.

Got a new rack and pinion fitted by CV Joints Aus near Slacks Creek for around $400.

Most of what ACA says I assume does go on but they do tend to hype the fck out of it being media and all.
