My old BA motor.....

Piston/rod came straight out the sump. Sump needs to be replaced.

My question, can I just get a new (or even second hand?) rod and piston fitted then everything is back to normal? Or do I need machining and other crap?

Depends on the damage done inside the block - you'd have to strip the motor down to assess and then go from there. Could be damage to the crack, heavily marked bores, bent or broken valves...there is alot that can go wrong when your engine creates its own crank inspection hole...

As Senna said.. It depends on what it did on the way out... Did it break the rod? I'd imagine that it will have damaged the bottom of the bore, f*cked the crank... New engine coming up I think...... To make matter worse, you have to pull off all of the pipework that you just put in....

no no. Im talking about my engine that is already out. Its still at AVO. Just deciding if its worth me replacing the part and selling the motor in a 'repaired' state if it is a simple swap over. Obvisouly not gonna bother if damaged etc.

I already have a 07 tornado f6 motor in my BA all done few months back

I got scared when I saw this thread. I was frightened you had blown another up.

I am glad to read that's not the case though!
