dashturbo...mate your trying to tell us you have never broken the speed limit in your entire life...Never, you say...your a good lier or a future camry driver....

I will drive the way I feel is safe...and if that's 65km in a 60 zone let it be....

or 120 in a 110 zone....I'll deal with it when it happens....

On the freeway north just past brooklyn ..the 90 zone your having me on....It must go to say what the std of the drivers we have in this country...

If I'm on a freeway doing 120km an hour....and drive past a highway patrol car on the side of the road....From a standing start he would have to reach speeds well over my speed....He deems my speed not to be safe....But he reaches speeds of over 150km to catch me...So he thinks its safe to do over 150 otherwise he would of called it off....and pins me for 120...fark please man ...what a load of farken sh1t....Show me the money......is what its all about...

I don't think it's all about money, as someone said earlier they must appear to be doing something and as they have been pushing the 5k over kills you they started believing it themselves. They spin the same sh*t on to the police for long enough and they catch the same disease.

For example Cumberland highway in Sydney is a 70k limit and 2 regular spots police frequent is a stretch of divided road about 1km long with no houses, or side streets of any kind on that part. Anyone who says doing 10 over on that bit of road is dangerous can go get f*cked. So why not target people speeding through actual dangerous spots near by instead of the area that probably never had an accident. O wait because here we can catch 10 innocent people and over there where it matters we might only catch one.

By the way hows the northern territory death toll after introducing those speed limits? Last I heard it went up slightly, boredom is a bitch.

And thumbs up to police for the new RBT tactics, with a set up in a high visibility area and another car in a side street before it catching all those turning off to avoid the RBT, excellent idea who ever came up with it.

Hers one for all you speed N@zis.

Vehicle: Sports bike.

Road posted speed limit :70KMPH

Actual speed :120KMPH

Protection: Helmet, gloves, boots, pants, jacket. (I wouldn’t go out with anything less)

Dog (German Sheppard) runs out right in front of your front wheel.

If you were doing 70 then my guess would be that the sudden stop would throw you over the handle bars and you may end up breaking every bone in your body or snapping your neck.

But because of the 120 the front wheel actually slices right through the middle of the dog (side on) and the bike low sides while you just slide for 50 meters. Would you rather be doing 70 or 120?

However, let’s replace the dog with a car pulling out without looking. I know I would rather be doing 70 in this case or how about 20? I didn’t see a 20 sign anywhere.

The point I’m trying to make is a stupid number on the road will not save your life. They can’t simply think of every scenario and replace it with a number. More driver training and awareness is needed. Motorbike license is the best thing I could have done after a car license. It teaches you how to properly "scan" the road for hazards. A competency a lot of car drivers are missing.

Dash, you are what is call "Speed Conditioned". You feel safe doing the speed limit and think that anyone who exceeds the posted limit deserves to be booked.

This is just like the other 90% of drivers who are "speed conditioned". Essentially you are completely safe knowning you are safe doing the speed limit because someone says it is safe. Good on you for thinking this way, but you are brainwashed by years of advertising saying "speed kills" and not correct in your beliefs.

Firstly it is not unsafe to exceed the speedlimit in the right conditions. When the RTA deems a speedlimit for a road, they need to consider a 1970's crapped out kingswood with a 90yo driver. They cannot take the modern car with a driving enthusiast at the wheel. So 60km/h in the kingswood is "safe", well 80or even 100km/h may also be safe for the modern car.

The difference between the 2 speeds is what is written on the road and the nasty speed camera booking anyone who thinks 61km/h or more is safe.

Speed Cameras only do one thing and that is raise revenue. It cannot make anyone safer as a driver, as in NSW they are marked and people slam the brakes on when approaching one, causing many rear enders, then proceed throught the speed camera at 10km/h under "just to be sure" then speed backup to the "feel safe speed".

How does this do anything to make the road safer?

Nobody is saying speedlimits should be banned, as there needs to be some guide, but people need to be taught what is a safe speed to drive at when you factor in location, weather, traffic densety, car and drivers skill level.

There is no majic solution to this, but a start would be to better train and educate the licensed drivers. Make them all sit their license in ENGLIGH and learn the rules in ENGLISH and also sit a propper driving test. Once people are empowered with knowladge on the way to drive, then you can start working on reducing the road toll by having better drivers, not by booking them for "speeding". Have much more highway patrols on the road that can enforce excessive speed, but not booking everyon doing 10km/h over the limit.

Surely educated people should see that we are going downhill in a big way when it comes to enforcement of the speed in this country. We are setting a very dangerous direction and should make the retarded politicians accountable.

great post and hit it right on the head!!

:stupid:

... 200km/h in a 70km/h with a impact speed of 174km/h.

I realise it's just an analogy, but I don't think you'd find one person on here that condones that sort of crap so really can't understand the point of mentioning it. And if there is let me know and delete their account just on principal.

Yes speed is a contributory factor in every single MVA...but whether it is actually excessive speed for the conditions (which may or may not be over the posted speed limit) that causes the majority of these 'speed related' incidents is never published in any statistics.

The most recent published Qld data has 'speed related' fatalities as number nine on the list, accounts for around 7%. Taking a wild guess that three quarters of those are from exceeding the posted speed limit then we are talking 5.25% of fatalities are legitimately from excessive speed...yet it receives how much of the police force's attention??? That's the absolutely ridiculous part.

^^ exactly !!! 200kph is all fine and dandy - hey the germans have been doing it for years on unrestricted public roads with probably a lot less accident-per-km-travelled ratio than we have here - but defo not 200 in a 70kph zone !!!

IMO it all comes down to whether your speed was appropriate for the conditions, f*ck the posted limit as that only has a bearing on any legal outcomes if you have a crash.

as for the QLD stats re speeding and police force and medias attention on it, its just all about revenue and vote grabbing... that's all its ever come down to and all it ever will.. no pollie/govt has ever given a sh*t about saving lives whilst preaching the speed kills propaganda !! anyone that thinks otherwise is seriously deluded.

:stupid:

All they give a fck about is the perception that they are doing something, unfortunately most of the electorate just lap that sh*t up.

just to let you guys know..I'm not a speed demon.....I'm not talking about crazy speeds....

I coach a couple of kids sides....So spend alot of my weekend at playing fields....

Some of those streets where the playing fields are at....are quite narrow...add cars parked on either side..speed limit of 50km...well guys 50 isn't a safe speed around there on the weekend. So I usually drop my speed to almost a walking pace..As I think at 50km any kid popping out between parked cars has no chance...So what do you say to that....I should sit on 50km or a safe speed....Most of you would say a safe speed...but only when below the speed limit.....A safe speed usually doesn't mean it should be slower...
