this just suxs..If you need your licence for work......we all make mistakes at work...so why not on the road....

Following the goverments guidelines...if my employee dosen't send a fax on time....can I fine him..remove dermit points and on special days fine him more or remove double the points...Why not..lose 12 points lose your job....

that's the guidelines the goverment sets..so why can't I.....

If this was any business that followed the goverments guide lines to speeding..they would be shut down..so why the fark can they get away with it...

Does anyone know how the speed cameras work these days...I mean with no flash...is it infrared they use...or what...

I have to say Rootster, your arguments are pretty lame. People don't understand that we all have a huge responsibility once given a car license. A car is a weapon that can potentially kill if not used properly. You may be a good driver yourself but so what?? The amount of idiots in the world suggests to me that all these laws are a good thing. Comparing accidents on the road to an office job is hardly a convincing argument.

I know we're all car enthusiasts here, but speeding is not what its all about. If you do the right thing you won't get fined. Unfortunately for us the minority who constantly break the rules mean we are all kept under tight, harsh laws. Bottom line.... speed does kill, usually in the hands of inexperienced drivers but happens all the same.

Or we could all drive at or below the posted speed limit, relax enjoy life! and get over it!

:roflmbo::tonguepoke:

The issue is that most speed limits are set 10-20 below what many consider is a comfortable cruising speed. This is especially true at night when there are less cars on the road. In some countries, speed limits can vary depending on the time.

Im all for a good protest, so count me in.

This is happening all over the world. Protests are even being led by some cops in the US about speed cameras.

I don't think anyone is making much progress anywhere getting rid of them yet, but people power can be strong. Stronger than the almighty $ ? Well we can only try and see.

marty I hear you......potential weapon you say...yeap your right...so an undercover camera..will do what....stop you from doing 150km a hour....stop you from speeding ....none of the above...in 3-4 weeks time a ticket will be sent to you in the mail....It's about taking your dollors...nothing about saving lives....or slowing down.....

I smelly old eh Expensive Daewoo doing 110km a hour(speed limit)...my fg would steer handle and brake better at 150km...

So how do they work that out.....It's not a fair system full stop.....If they wanted to save lives...they have a better attempt than under cover speed cameras....

I hear you mate, but from the Governments perspective they can't do a lot else. They can't make rules depending on the car you drive(dam I wish).

I think in the case of the average driver, knowing that a speed camera could be around the corner is in the back of all our minds... therefore we are likely to speed less. I see your point about being busted for only 4-5 klms over. The idiots who do 60klm over with mates in the car at night while pissed, you can't do much for them.. these are the ones who die.

So that is a fair argument. Those who kill themselves are going to do it anyway, laws or no laws. Stinging experienced drivers for 5 or so Klms over is ridiculous. 'P' platers deserve to get done though. I'd rather see a 'lets get middle aged women in SUVs off the bloody road' petition....grrrrrrrrr, my pen is out and waiting.

:stirthepot::turboboink:

I normally drive 5-10 over the limit every single day for 15 years with no crashes and that still feels too slow for whatever road I am on..

that's the main problem, its not that everyone wants to drive at a speed excessive for the conditions, but we dont want to be forced to drive at a limit that is way under an appropriate speed for the conditions and any variance on our part by a minor 10kph or so results in a cash grab by the carnts operating the revenue police.

Quite often if im driving on roads where I dont know the limit and cant see a speed sign I just drive at a speed that I think is appropriate for the conditions and then back off about 5-10kph just to be sure I dont get pinged. 100% of these times by the time I come across a speed limit sign I am doing 10-15kph over as the posted limit is ALWAYS too low for the conditions.

I reckon the govt could increase all limits bar school/residential zones by 10-20kph and see no change in car accidents. It would probably go down in fact

Its not how good your car can stop, nor is it how well it can turn, at intersections its how far another driver can see down the road before pulling out.

I have analysed the deaths of people at intersections where someone was speeding, another person cant see them over a crest/round a building etc.. pulls out in front of them and is killed, the speeder is fine and the driver that did everything possible to be safe was killed.

So you feel safe driving 10 over the limit, that's real nice, I feel safe when a nuclear bomb is in the house next door, that is hardly a valid point.

After I get off a winding country road with a 110 speed limit I can hardly do 60 in the suburbs, is that because It's safe? or because I'm used to doing 110 around blind sweeping corners?

I love driving, I hate being tailgated while driving at the speed limit, I always pull over and let them past, I don't want a neck injury like I see so many people receive.

Speeding is stupid. We all do it sometimes, like swearing and hitting people, Come to grips with it.

110 on a winding country road with probably 0 toddlers straying off their driveways is a little different to 60 in the suburbs with kids dogs soccer moms etc running in front of you so I dont quite get your point.

I agree with 40 in school zones and 50 in residential areas is tolerable... but I mean FFS double lane with huge median strip, fresh new road etc no houses and its a 70 zone?? I mean WTF !!! you could easily do 110 there piece of piss!! there are hundreds of roads like this all over WA and probably the rest of australia.

Cars are getting so safe yet limits keep getting brought down lower and lower so no wonder the accidents keep on happening - everyones bored sh*tless behind the wheel!!
