In general the benefit of going 3 km/h quicker doesn't merit the increase in road trauma and fatalities..just like a little bit of drugs doesn't always kill, but sometimes it does..however the benefit of doing a little drugs doesn't merit the likelyhood that people will die..It is no different.Whatever.... you convinced me, speeding is a brilliant idea! lets ban speed limits... and put the bastards that enforce the rules in jail. Its easier...Wrong forum for logic against speeding I guess.

You feel safe doing the speed limit and think that anyone who exceeds the posted limit deserves to be booked. This is just like the other 90% of drivers who are "speed conditioned". Essentially you are completely safe knowning you are safe doing the speed limit because someone says it is safe. Good on you for thinking this way, but you are brainwashed by years of advertising saying "speed kills" and not correct in your beliefs.Firstly it is not unsafe to exceed the speedlimit in the right conditions. When the RTA deems a speedlimit for a road, they need to consider a 1970's crapped out kingswood with a 90yo driver. They cannot take the modern car with a driving enthusiast at the wheel. So 60km/h in the kingswood is "safe", well 80or even 100km/h may also be safe for the modern car.The difference between the 2 speeds is what is written on the road and the nasty speed camera booking anyone who thinks 61km/h or more is safe.Speed Cameras only do one thing and that is raise revenue. It cannot make anyone safer as a driver, as in NSW they are marked and people slam the brakes on when approaching one, causing many rear enders, then proceed throught the speed camera at 10km/h under "just to be sure" then speed backup to the "feel safe speed". How does this do anything to make the road safer?Nobody is saying speedlimits should be banned, as there needs to be some guide, but people need to be taught what is a safe speed to drive at when you factor in location, weather, traffic densety, car and drivers skill level. There is no majic solution to this, but a start would be to better train and educate the licensed drivers. Make them all sit their license in ENGLIGH and learn the rules in ENGLISH and also sit a propper driving test. Once people are empowered with knowladge on the way to drive, then you can start working on reducing the road toll by having better drivers, not by booking them for "speeding". Have much more highway patrols on the road that can enforce excessive speed, but not booking everyon doing 10km/h over the limit.Surely educated people should see that we are going downhill in a big way when it comes to enforcement of the speed in this country. We are setting a very dangerous direction and should make the retarded politicians accountable.

Usually it is the driver that brings themselves unstuck. Yes cars have improved with safety over the years but also have plenty more power than what they use to. Increasing speed limits because cars have improved safety isn't the best idea. Cars don't improve a driver's aility to be able to avoid certain things. They certainly do help but the driver is the driver, car's don't drive themselves. Causing kaos on the road isn't the right way to go about it. All you are going to do is piss off other road users who more than likely have the same opinion on the subject as you. Also if speed doesn't kill go to a couple of fatal accidents where families have been involved. Speed in my experience has had some part to play. For example triple fatal in Wollongong about a year ago. Turned up to that stepped out of the car and didn't realise there was a head laying 2 lanes from the actual car. Found out 3 hours later that it was my wifes sisters boyfriend. I will give you one guess at what caused that accident... 200km/h in a 70km/h with a impact speed of 174km/h. Plenty more first hand examples so in short speed kills. It aint the only factor one of many. Edited 07/04/10 10:35 AM by rhys86

How is that possible based on the NSW RTA and State police Propaganda? How about the fact I regularly hit 270 ks an hour on my bike up there on a public highway? The muppets down here are so fixated on speed and the $ they earn from there Nazi like enforcement that the facts are irrelevant to them. Its all about appropriate speed for the conditions not just some arbitrary figure a shiny ass'd desk jockey came up with. It aint the only factor one of many.Of course inappropriate speed is dangerous, 200km/h is insane for any public road. But on that same 70km/h road, 90km/h would be a comfortable speed in good weather and low traffic. Doing 20 over the limit and 130 over the limit are two vastly different scenarios.Bottom line is don't drive like a maniac. Going over by 10-20 in good traffic doesn't increase the likelihood of dying by much at all. Edited 07/04/10 12:11 PM by NB4C

To what extent both you and I don't no. That example was at the extreme end of the scale but I have seen plenty more less. Each to their own I guess. Unless your in a small car, you shouldn't end up dead. While its very easy to lay the blame on speeding cause accidents, it's not always the case.. Sure doing 200km's through a school zone isnt cool (although, perhaps in some areas it would solve a lot of future problems) but I have lost several friends to car accidents around the 60 / 70kms mark. Its a bit like the gun debate. Give a decent person a gun and they will be responsible in their use of it and no one will get hurt. Give a moron (US Apache crews for example!) a gun and your problems are just beginning. Cars are the same. Edited 07/04/10 12:49 PM by Mat
