I disagree with the war on speed. It takes all the concentration from the road and onto your speedo. Its wrong. But it can't be stopped.

If I'm driving through built up places, or heavily used highways, I will watch my speed and use cruise control whenever possible. Its not worth the fine doing a few clicks over. But get me on some empty backroad, and I'll happily ignore the signs and drive free. I was doing 140 in a 100 zone the other night on a quiet ver lonely road. Why? because on that road, fatigue will kill me long before my speed does.

I love driving with enthusiasm, but if I want to go faster than I am advised, I keep it to empty roads.

If I was over there I'd so be in!!! it is all garbage....

And your exactly right... why when I'm driving 63 in a 60 is a cop passing me doing 75.... its ok coz they have red and blue pretty lights on their cars????

I dont blame the Police for the laws though.... its not their fault they have been told to catch x amount of speeding drivers a day....

What about the ones not indicating when changing lanes and cutting you off????

what about the ones straddling 2 lanes???

What about the ones doing 45 in an 80 zone in the right hand lane???

What about the ones driving a car with a door nearly falling off due to rust etc???

What about the ones driving with 6 kids in the back with no seatbelts on???

Or smoking with a new born in the back????

Its never the real problem that gets dealt with .. its way easier to catch speeding drivers and tell people that its all their fault!

I'm all for pointless threads that get closed down eventually but can we change the subject every now and then?

I clocked up 3400k's over the easter weekend. The slowest of which was an hour on the way there and an hour on the way back following 1 car back from a cop. Most hiway patrol cops don't speed, they have no real reason too.

Things that sh*t me during the trip

Caravans - book these fukkers.

How about a curtesy law like some other countries - If you are doing under the posted limit and there is more than one vehicle (or 1 long vehicle) behind you then you should be make to pull over as early as practical to let them pass. The most I counted was 18 cars behind a caravan just coming into an overtaking lane, how many could legally pass in one overtaking lane on on the open road if the caravan was doing 90?

Or just book them everytime a wheel goes outside of their lane and crosses a solid line. I saw cops let this slide, why - it's just as illegal as speeding. Maybe caravans are harder to get the public to believe as law breakers.

A bloke with a trailer had one brake light out and the cops done the turn and burn and nailed him . . . for 12k's over the limit on the marlborough stretch. I asked him at a servo a few hundred k's down the road.

Imust admit that the 2 speedcameras I was warned about at night were both within 150m of a change of speed zone, one has hiding behind a tree as well. The rest of the camera where in fairly logical places.

lol they always try hide the cameras in vic, you get into the habit of keeping an eye out for any newish cars on the side of the road. I dunno if its the same everywhere, but around frankston there generally in the same places.

Personally if I was a cop I would focus on Piss Heads and druggies driving under the influence. I wouldn't last long as a cop as I would bash the crap out of anyone I caught putting lives at risk drink driving.

This is the sh*t that causes accidents, not 10km/h over the limit

Guys, I'm 100% with you. I almost hit a side barrier looking at my speedo during the double demerits Easter weekend. A 50 zone in a very hilly and twisty section of road, there needs to be some leeway because the hill descents were pretty steep. This is not about safety, it's anything but.

If you guys are organising a large scale protest march or drive, I'm in. There are other forms of protest, mass emailing to the RTA and certain officials. Getting 300,000 people to download a large PDF from the RTA website at the same time - that'll crash their servers.

this just suxs..If you need your licence for work......we all make mistakes at work...so why not on the road....

Following the goverments guidelines...if my employee dosen't send a fax on time....can I fine him..remove dermit points and on special days fine him more or remove double the points...Why not..lose 12 points lose your job....

that's the guidelines the goverment sets..so why can't I.....

If this was any business that followed the goverments guide lines to speeding..they would be shut down..so why the fark can they get away with it...

Does anyone know how the speed cameras work these days...I mean with no flash...is it infrared they use...or what...
