hey guys, thread re-birth...

whats it cost for a pan and filter+gasket for a ZF service?

Been told their not cheap, just trying to work sh*t out my phoons due for a auto service and want to do it right the first time.

also im a big fan of Nulon products, but after reading their site it says the 100% synthetic atf IS NOT suitable for the ZF 6 spds.. what about castrol transmax Z??

I dont mind trying the Penrite SYN-ATF, but ive never been a big fan of penrite products... their results dont give me a flutter in the pants region

I've recently been quoted $900, for the job, And that's installing a Steel pan. Anybody out there know if this is a reasonable price?

When changing to the steel Pan you will need to buy:

1 Steel Pan

1 Oil Filter

1 Gasket

21 Bolts

8 ltr Castrol TransmaxZ

Or just buy the Plastic Pan with integrated filter

1 Plastic Pan (Comes with filter and gasket)

8 ltr Castrol TransmaxZ oil

I think the plastic pans are Cheap and available aftermarket also a plastic pan and 8 ltr of oil would be @ $250.00

I think I saw on her last week that Hiro performance sell parts at a good price??????

The place where I was going to get it done suggested I didn't use the castrol transmax Z as it's not recommended for the ZF.. I can't remember which brand he suggested. He Said, the tranzmax z was more for the 4 speed. But I'm guessing you probably have a better Idea than my local. So you think the tranzmax Z is the way to go? I don't really care how much the oil cost or what brand it is as long as it will be the best for the box.

I just got quoted 300 from MV automatics in SA that's for a flush, filter, plastic pan, and penrite oil. I think that's pretty good value what do people think? any SA folk been too or heard of MV's?

the guy there quoted me 700 for genuine ford stuff, and said since I was running bigger power he would recommend the cheaper penrite jobby

Penrite have since said DONT use their oil on ZF 6 speed and the ZF factory oil is average and only just makes the grade on a STD box. Everyone I know now uses Castrol TransmaxZ and swear by it.

Use whatever you feel comfortable with as everyone has their own Ideas just like I have mine. Ive seen probably more than 50 ~75 of these box's stripped now and you can pick which oil was used in them just by looking at the wear!!!
