Sorry for the late reply, here is a pic of my CR500, just finished a full ground up rebuild, rode it for the first time in months on the weekend, took it easy for a few hrs to run it in, then opened the taps on a long straight track, along side my brother on his 500...

stupid fast, roosting a mile long WOT in 5th, just keeps going.

I wish I was able to ride it to near its potential, its seriously allot of bike, and it can all go wrong pretty quickly if you aren't sensible. I reckon there's probably only a handfull of guys in the country who could really exploit one. Ive ridden modern KTM 4stroke 450's etc, and sure I'm quicker on them due to their modern suspension etc.

But the CR500 is so much fun on the trails, tractor like torque down low, you can loft it over logs etc so easily, and you can really be lazy if you want to, leaving it in 2nd-3rd gear most trails.

But if you wanna go really hard, its really hard work, more physical than any other bike I reckon.

Yeah the AF conversions are best of both world, best offroad motor ever made, simple maintenance, along with modern ergo's and suspension.

Service Honda AF500 would be the dream bike, but quite expensive to get it here. ( I heard a local dealer in melbourne is importing them for a reasonable price)

2011 KTM 2 strokes are gonna be the bomb, direct injection! they have the potential to be much cleaner, powerfull and fuel efficient than the best 4 strokes. with a fraction of the expense and maintenance.

In a strait line drag on tar my KTM 525 is quicker than the CR500 over 200m by two bike lengths. We swapped and tried each others bike and the same result.

I think they put out about the same power. It's just the CR gives you it all strait off idle. The CR's place to be is on the flat track, that's where they just shine over anythng else bar a jawa or other purpose built bike.

There are a heap of guys at Coolum racing the big old euro 500 2 bangers. God they sound and smell so good. And all of 5" to 6" of travel.

Speaking of old two bangers with no suspension travel, I will be down on the Sunny Coast over the June long weekend to attend Classic Dirt 7. Thi sevent is set an Conondale on a couple of Natural Terrain MX tracks that will bascially be pegged out just before the start of the event.

VMX News and Events - what is going on in VMX

Its probably the biggest VMX event in Aus, so if you have been involved in bikes for a while it would be worth going for a nostalgic step back into the past.

And it's a nicer track then the one you have behind the shopping center. I am meant to be riding a mates old husky 360, should be a hoot. Hope to see ya there.

Nice one.I thought you would know about it so my post was more to inform others. Must be a good mate if he will let you ride his old banger!

The track looks awesome and I have heard great things about it from guys who have attended in previous years.

I'm only spectating this year but am looking for an early 80s bike so that I can attend as a rider in the future. I just need to sell this first as I dont have the room to store too many toys;

As for the track behind the shopping centre you mentioned, there are better tracks than that up here too. Gum Valley is the best track in the Mackay area.
