Kewl. Well pm me if you need help with a place to stay or anything.

Yer I guessed that was the jnr's track. Went up there with Smarty for Kawasaki and did some teaching with all the gun kids on it. It's a good track, any track is fun. Not sure about the crocodile signs just to the right of the back strait. I had to go there a year ago and chase out some optical fiber pits, a bit scary. The only crocs we have in Noosa are wankers with La cost shirts on.

Coolum is more loamy and open and softer to fall on lol. It would be one of the best tracks in the country. They have open up the first corner now so it's one for the brave or stupid.

I am trying to get a guy to sell me his old Honda Elsinor 250. Awsome, it's still in it's original silver and green. It even has the gear and brake levers on the right side. It gets a bit confusing with the old Maico's and husky's in the heat of the moment. I think the field is full already for the VMX. Lots and lots into it down here.

Ps There are quite a few guys who like to rebuild them but are not dumb or fit enough to race them. But they still like to see them go around.

Thte. No probs with accomodation. My parents live at Palmwoods so it will be a chance to catch up with them. Also as I have two kids under 2, I doubt you would want us anywhere near your place, especially during witching hour! He he!

I have ridden with a guy who sells KTM, and has a 2010 525, very nice bike. easy to go fast, great handling.

What work have you done to yours? a properly jetted 525 with exhaust restriction removed makes around 45hp, you can acheive close to 60hp with a 540 kit, sx cam, sx black box, pipe and muffler.a standard healthy CR500 makes 55-60hp.

Granted the KTM has an extra gear, so will definately stretch its legs over a longer distance.

That CR may have been a little tired?, they still go really hard with only 110psi of compression, worn rings etc, My brothers was really tired, the previous owner couldn't recall when it had a new piston and rings, yet it still smoked his mates freshly rebuilt YZ426 with tons of work. Most guys only do a top end after 150+ hrs on the 500's, as you aren't ever really stressing them with high revs.

In a strait line drag on tar my KTM 525 is quicker than the CR500 over 200m by two bike lengths. We swapped and tried each others bike and the same result.

I think they put out about the same power. It's just the CR gives you it all strait off idle. The CR's place to be is on the flat track, that's where they just shine over anythng else bar a jawa or other purpose built bike.

There are a heap of guys at Coolum racing the big old euro 500 2 bangers. God they sound and smell so good. And all of 5" to 6" of travel.

Really not much motor wise. Just the usual Acrpovic, Flowed, jetting and air box mod. And 48hp. The CR is about 6 years old but he looks after it well and it is not ridden that much. So yeh it could have been gummed up a bit.

Don't forget the gearing. Mine is an exc so it has higher gearing. Main prob with the CR is it is low geared and spinning up 1st, 2nd ,3rd and is still trying to mono in fourth. The KTM just launches and gets it's all on the ground in a usable way. the CR is just a mad rabid dog and totally insane. I love it... but could not use it as a traily. And at 48 I would last about four laps on an mx track before I keeled over with exhaustion. Well if I made four laps without crashing.

Hey Joel

Hope you have a ball mate. Don't forget to start hydrating today and tomorrow, it really will help. Try to get at least 2lt of water a day in. Nothing worse than a stich when you are riding.

Yeah Ive been thinking about gearing up a few teeth, to mellow out the bottom end, and make 1,2nd more useable. Other benefit would be some more top end legs, as you say.

I flogged my cousin on his 2010 450 exc, until I reached top speed (14/48) gearing, then he caught me thanks to the extra cog.

Mine has the Boyesen Rad Valve, carbon reeds, std carb, exept for Boyesen bowl, its bored to 90.5mm (1.5mm oversize) with full pro circuit exhaust. At a guess it would be around 60hp, so I can afford to gear it up a few teeth I reckon.

Yep would say it has 60 easy. The rule of thumb for them is 120bhp per liter. But it all comes back to how it gets to the ground. When the MV Augusta 310 came out it had 137kw. The ZX10 had 170kw. And there was nothing in it between them over 100 - 200 and the 1/4. The MV really felt more powerful. But it was the way it came on. And the sound, it was like a guy running beside you with a tin bucket full of nuts and bolts.

The CR would be one of the few bike today that you would gear up lol It would tame it down a bit as you say in the lower gears. There just mad.
