The information posted by FORDTECH from teh FordForums does not relate to NSW Police HWP vehicles.

As previously stated we use a seperate digital speedometer that is calibrated on a chassis dynomameter.

Our instrument panel has a sticker stating that the factory speedometer is NOT certified as correct, because we are to use the additional digital speedometer attached to the vehicle. This additional speedometer is also used to correlate vehicle speed with patrol speed with the Silver Eagle during radar speed checking.

The additional speedo uses digital numbers so there is no parallex error when reading the instrument (analogue) speedo.

Most new car speedomters are accurate to within 3% (including the analogue speedo)

Thanks for the info about my initial enquiry.

I am only a recent owner and I am trying to find out what is available on my car.

Do I need to have a dealer do this or could I switch between the "Police Mode" and the standard mode.

Like "Boosted" I would like to know how to enable and what do I lose.

It seems that Ford doesn't want the ordinary owners to know to much!

Cassius, I was chatting to NT-TURBO in relation to this, and I am almost definite to put into Police mode it has to be done at the dealer using the diagnostic computer.

Earlier in the tread just caliblates the speedo, it doesnt convert it into digital readout permanently.

I am not 100% sure about this...... :innocent:

So, does anyone know how to enable the "Police Mode" and what trade-offs this entails to other functionality?

As far as I know, you'll lose your Trip Computer. Not sure how easily it is to switch back. Can anyone tell us?

Only the dealer can do it as it need to be programmed in.

If only we had the Premium Screen like the Fairmont Ghia then we wouldn't need to worry about losing the Trip Comp.

Plonky, whether or not the features described by Fordtech are put to use in NSW police vehicles is irrelevant to his post. He is 100% correct in what he has said - if the HWP didn't want to go to the expense of aftermarket speedos they could simlpy have the existing ones calibrated to be just as accurate - they are able to be calibrated to 0.5%. Obviously to achieve this the calibration has to be done very regularly, (just the same as with the add-on speedos), to compenstate for tyre wear.

And it is also true that AU II and AU III had this feature.

Switching to police mode can only be done at a Ford dealer with his WDS - once it is activated you will lose DTE and one of your trip meters (or maybe both, can't remember now off the top of my head) and you will be able to carry out the calibration yourself as posted by PHNTUM. Also, there is no point in activating it if you aren't going to then do the calibration, as it is initially set to the same calibration as your normal speedo.
