Hi there, 2006 BF. Have read several forums and spoken to people. Of course you get a million different suggestions and I dont expect anything different here. My knowledge is basic and funds limited. Thought the flash tuner would be the best bet but a Ford technician said often they make the car run very lean (to get the power) and that causes a big build up of heat and potential damage. So after you have down loaded the tune do you have to do anything else or is it all done? Quite expensive and hard to come by here in NZ but seems to be the best bang for your buck?

Where from NZ are you?? There are a few good places around have just recently had mine done at speedworks in palmy. Brought nizpro plenum intercooler of trademe. Got a custom made 4" airbox and they put in 42lb injectors walbro 341 fuel pump and custom tune so far it has cost me around $4800 and is making a pretty happy 310rwkw. I do need valve springs still so I'm guessing that'll be around $1000

For around 300kw you don't really need intercooler and definately don't need plenum just I got it for a good price and couldn't resist some under the bonnet bling lol.

Btw Welcome

well if you are thinking of just getting a tune flash box will be about 800 and tune 500-1000

but again you have a budget.. so im not sure on what you want? but if you didnt have much money injectors an tune would be the way to go.. but if you have a little extra cash a cat an dump will help alot!

im not to sure of what rwkw a xr6t would be I think they are 180 or something..

an guessing with tune cat dump an injectors should see you around 260-280rwkw's??

but im no expert..

an how much money are you willing to spend may also help us give you a rough idea

Edit.. Is it auto or manual?

Hi there and thanks, I am in Wgtn but do travel to Palmy for business. Was probably thinking for my first modification of say $1000 but based on your comments I might have to save my $ a weeeeeeee bit more.

Hi there and thanks. It is an auto and was thinking around that $1000 for my first mod. I do a lot of highway driving, does that change anything?

The ford tech is wrong, but possibly could be correct at the same time.

A flash tuner will not make it run lean, a bad tune will make it run lean.

Generic tunes are not recommended for these cars as they will vary quite a bit from 1 car to another.

All these cars will cruise at 14.7:1 at most driving conditions assuming the tunes is still closed loop, but if tuned incorrectly or the car has been changed it is possible to run lean at high load situations.

A rule to remember is "you want powerful, you want reliable and you want cheap, you can have a combibation of any two, but you can't have all three"

As mentioned, these cars can make around 300 rwkw without a cooler upgrade, but for possibly 1 dyno run and that's it, a cooler will keep the intake temps more consistant and keep the power up, as the boost levels go up to make power, the intake temps go up quite quickly, this is why you will need a cooler.

There is nothing that you can just "bolt on" to get more power out of these things, they need to be reprogrammed to take advantage of mods.

You might be able to save some $$ and just get a HP tune if there are any tuners over there that do them, just means you can't flash it back to stock when you want to (but who wants to)... you should see ~250rwkw safely with just the tune.

This should be able to be done for a lot less then a grand.

Cheers,

Ben

well heres some mods that you can do that may help the car flow an respond a little better.. an there mods will be needed down the track an u dont need a tune..

f6 lower intake $80 an get a k&n filter (panel)80-100 maybe a f6 intercooler should get 1 around 200-400 bucks better piping maybe? im not to sure about the piping as to much air may flow through an the car may have a spaz

well that all I can think of untill you get enough money for a tune an as I said no point just getting a tune if you can pick up cheap injectors off the forum second hand for 200-400 bucks an be about 100 or less to insall an then if you buy a second hand tuner an use tha an get a tune that will be cheeapp!

theres alot of ways around it.. but its all time an money

that's right....this post makes a lot of sense if your on a budget.

The only cheaply done mod I could suggest would be to remove the centre muffler and put in a set of hotdogs.....aside from that, if you do what Keith has suggested, you should be looking good for around the 270-290kw mark for not a lot of money......good luck with it and welcome to the forum :icon_ford:
