Emergency lanes are not to take calls.. the right thing would have been a blue tooth kit operated not from the phone, or just let it ring out...This statistic should not have happened, but it did...certainly....no one will ever know I guess. whats not to say this would have happened to some one else who wasnt on the phone . look at how many people pull over on the edge for reasons other than answering phone calls and emergency situations. Young girl's car broke down and was pulled off to the side of the road, her parents turned up and parked behind her and were collected by an 75 year old driver in a 4wd who obviously wandered out of the lane. The story was in the local paper. Also seen a few videos from the US highway patrol which show that for whatever reason these aren't isolated incidents and happen more often then people might think. IBOO57 Member 538 Member For: 15y 5m 17d Posted 26/03/10 06:01 AM Share Posted 26/03/10 06:01 AM Yeah you have to wonder if the phone call was that important to risk stopping right next to vehicles traveling at 100ks per hour.Unless his car was broken down and he was calling the NRMA then it isnt a great idea.I drive a Heavy Vehicle as well and to be honest some of the things I see on a Daily basis amazes me.Some drivers have no idea. There are quite a few rest areas along the M7 where he could have pulled off the road to return the call.Sad but avoidable as well. (even if car was broken down you should get out and stand behind the arnmco fence for your safety)I was unloading my Petrol Tanker today at a Servo in Smithfield when some asshat gets out of his car taking a deep draw on his cigaretteright next to the Hoses so I get up him and he just drops it on the ground and steps on it and shrugs his shoulders. If people arent concerned about burning to death in 40,000 liters of petrol I guess using a phone next to a Motorway wont bother them either.
