Being a virgin modder of XR6T's and having saved some $$$ to get things underway I was hoping to draw on the experiences of everyone good and bad.

So what have been the benefits and good stuff of having a big rwkw XR6T?

Also what has not been so good?

In some cases has it been a bit too much (I.e. daily into not so daily driver).

Cheers

positives - sheer awesomeness, safer overtaking, watching HSV's in the mirrors

Negatives - tyre life, license absence

Better economy is available, whether you can allow it to happen depends on your restraint.

You can do it on the cheap. You certainly can reach that magic 300 rwkw goal that dazzles every newcomer ( me included )..

You can delete the centre muffler, use the stock cooler and even leave the stock pump in and still reach your target.

However, if you get a good exhuast, a decent cooler, an aftermarket fuel pump and valve springs you can get a really REALLY nice all round driving tune.

DOn`t be blinkered by the old " I don`t want anymore than 300 " line we ALL told ourselves in the beginning..

Talk to some tuners and look at some dyno charts, if you go cheap that just there 300 kw will have a power curve like the top of a picket fence, where as you can have 315 to as high as say 330 and it`ll be like a big fat wad of power and torque spread over nice band.

that's what I think anyway, but I wouldn`t know sh!t from shoe polish.

In a nutshell, I reckon my 325 kw tune is arseloads better in every regard than my 310 tune its all pros and no cons so add me to the list that says just friggin do it guy. :3gears:

It is interesting to hear from you guys.

Whilst I have owned a number of tuned cars over the yrs and many yrs ago some big ported rotaries, 300+rwkw is easy to throw about however is suprising power for a street family car.

Being a little older these days a bit of research and drawing on experiences from everyone can help to reinforce your logic (as bouncing ideas of the wife is never a good idea).

I find nearly everything is good, it is just getting to that point where it is too crazy for a daily that you have to watch... like you dont want the mrs driving it and planting it in the ewt with 500rwkw....

but saying that at 300 or so a lot of drivers dont even hit boost when their daily drving and depending on what kind of tune you want it can be fairly tame ... the great thing about these cars is you can have the kids in th back mon- fri... then take it out on the weekend and give it a run with plenty of get up and go...

go for it dud.

Yep overtaking is the best in a big engine turbo car. Makes it heaps safer.

Fuel economy is better in a BA 4speed model on the highway and can be around town to if tootling but not sure about the FG, I'll let you know when my mate decide to take some figures down!

As far as handling goes, its no different! braking maybe if you are going beyond the speed of the original equipment but seriously for everyday driving it aint any different.

You learn and adapt, like driving a 4wd, they brake like trucks...
