Its there job to chase crooks or are they just suppose to ignore there core duties. Lets say there chasing crooks that just broke into and stole from your home or even carjacked your misses. You either want them caught or you dont and no matter how distastefull some outcomes may be, the day when all pursuits are canned is the day the crooks will run rampant. This topic should just be closed now and be done with it.I.B.I don't disagree Iconic. I'm just suggesting that there needs to be further discussion on improving the situation when a chase occurs. I'm not saying they should discontinue either, just a review of the current guidelines. BTW a chase is only a chase when someone starts chasing. The police start the chase. Just like the police end the chase by capturing the culprit or calling it off. Any comparison to riots is not appropriate. I agree, let's close it now. the Pollies and cops will no doubt look at this tragedy very seriously to see if anything could have been done better. That's what I said in the first place. I said if you get RBT'd while driving a stolen car there's no certainty they'd know it was stolen since they don't do any check up on the vehicle usually. They just want to know if you've been drinking. He lost his gall when he saw the blue and red lights and created that terrible situation. At least if he held his nerve he stood a chance of getting through with no incident. On a side note, what kind of a society would it be if police never chased criminals when they did something wrong? lol, then everyone would complain about cops being gutless when they dont chase the bad guys since "something bad might happen" when we chase them. Guest XR09 Guests Posted 22/03/10 04:20 AM Share Posted 22/03/10 04:20 AM It's a toughy. If I was a cop and there at the time. I would chase him. He is totally disrespecting the law (being me) in the first place. And um it's my job to catch idiots. And well it's fun. mmmFirstly you are trying as best you can to stay calm while having to drive off line, to see around the idiot you are chasing. The general public is doing it's best to kill you by panicking and just stopping dead all over the road. You hearts pumping and the adrenalin is up.All bad really. No one can drive well like that in the first place. So you know the idiot is going to crash. It's just not like playstation. The road has such uneven grip, ask any rider how many times a day he two wheel drifts running around the city. People are so random and will do the dumbest things on the road. While you think you can make the corner, you cant make it around old mate who just had to turn there and then. While I believe it should be the right of the officer behind the wheel at the time. Life and common sense has shown me that it should be called off after 150% of the posted speed limit has been reached. The crim is a crim and will be back to his old ways. Or his mates will give him up to get lighter time. Hey the idiot will probably stop for Macca's in the next suburb.Dead people don't come back. Pursuits need to be terminated sometimes and sometimes they need not be started in the first place. In general a pursuit is terminated because of manner, speed, pursuing drivers (experience / qualifications), amount of traffic, time of day, road conditions, weather conditions, catagory of police vehicle etc etc or a combination of any of these not forgetting the pursuing drivers local knowledge (sic). Pursuits are a neccesary evil but you need to arm the police to deal with them by allowing pit, rolling roadblocks etc etc, not follow until the crash or termination or failure of the offending vehicle. Don't bash the police when the do-gooders have been wispering in the politicians ears for years forcing them to sit on there hands and do nothing instead of working to a proper resolution. Blame the f&*n politicians and shout it from the roof tops demand that police can use more force to terminate dangerous pursuits .

Let's get your election campaign started hey?...the Pollies and cops will no doubt look at this tragedy very seriously to see if anything could have been done better.No. They'll instigate an inquiry that will take about three years and cost around $5M that will result in more hands being tied and more red tape to make it harder for enforcement and easier for the scum that cause all this sh*t in the first place. In the interim all the do-gooders will use the tragedy to push their own agendas with total disregard to any resemblance of logic. And the fact remains that the pursuit was called off before this all happened. Maybe if they had of kept the chase going this incident wouldn't have occurred, the vehicle that got cleaned up would have been more alert to the speed of the offender with flashing lights and sirens right behind him.
