I've just bought an 2005 XR6T with a 4 speed auto gearbox, and was pretty happy until someone told me it will likely give up the ghost in a big way after 170,000kms (which is only about 10,000Ks away for me), and how much better the 6 speed box is. Is it practical to change and if so is the cost just too outrageous to consider?

Thanks

Huge job mate, gonna need a donor car and transplant the lot....have a look for the thread titled BA to be BF'ed...might be easier to trade in and trade up, or just get the 4spd strengthened...this is the first I have heard that the trans give up at 170,000km though...taxis put much more then that on them without issues,

I think it is quite a large job to do. pretty much rewire the whole car I think. and change tail shaft and retune the ecu to suit. someone will correct me if im wrong. im sure I read it somewhere though. you should be able to find some threads here somewhere on the forums.

I 2nd the rebuild of the 4spd.

Not sure where you are but check through the forums for a reputable trans rebuilder.

Mine cost 3300, 2 yrs warranty and can handle 400kw.

Pity my engine can't.

Cheer's
