Hi all, I am starting to plan my new motor and have have two set of rods that I am considering. One is a "H beam" and one is an "I Beam". Besides looks, what is the difference between the two rods? Would the "I beam" be heaviver due to it's construction ad therefore stronger? Is there any Advanatge/Disadvantages to running a lighter/Heavier rods?

I am also weighing up my piston options... I am trying to weigh up the pro's and cons of forged pistons.. As I understand it. Forged pistons require the enigine to be idled up to normal engine operating temperatures and failing to do so will result in damage to the bores. My car is my every day driver and unfortunately I do not always have that luxury. So I am considering just changing my rods in my spare engine to maintain it's drivability and besdides I really can't see myself upgrading the exhaust manifold or turbo until it dioes... Any thoughts on the matter??? Your advice would be greatly apprecuated..

Brad

A "H" beam rod is more of a race orientated part...

"I" beams would probably be preferable for the street...

Depends how carried away you want to get, its the same with the pistons.

You really need to talk with a reputable engine builder to get the right advice on this....every applications' different, and because you want to keep it "streetable" your gonna' have to put some thought into what you can and can't put up with regarding tuning and maintenance vs street use...

Hope this helps.... :beerchug:

I know that all of the real big hp supras in the states use I beam. imagine the construction of a h beam. lets say that u were a super strong human, and could bend a rod by hand. try to bend the h beam by holding either ends and pressing it against your leg. do the same with the I beam. due to construction, common sense would tell us that the I beam would prevail. as this is the way pressure is exerted from a piston engine. not to say that a h beam will fail at its rated power. h vs I beam is really a rhetorical question.
