Hi there :D

Im in the market for a new camera and need your opinion.

My price range is about $300.

Ive sort of decided on the Canon SX120

Canon PowerShot SX120 IS Digital Camera – 10 Megapixel - Digital Camera Warehouse Australia

Mainly because number one, its a Canon and because it has some manual settings which im wanting to play around with too. The SX120 has great night-shooting abilites im led to believe which im keen for too.

I guess im a beginner when it comes to photography but am keen to learn.

Doesnt have to be real compact as I dont care about the size either.

Does this seem like something that'd suit me?

OR are there other models which I should be going for?

Cheers for any advice.

Yeah I looked at the 110IS I think, and almost bought that, but decided I wanted something with more zoom and wanted to play with a few more settings.

that's not too bad, dont get too distracted with mega pixles and the like. and yes find one that will let you play with the settings. I noticed the camera takes AA batteries, my best advice would be to find one, or pay extra for a camera that has a rechargeable lithium battery. buying AA's is the biggest pain in the butt. maybe look at some others. good luck.

sorry was just going from the price on the link I posted... I got mine quite q while ago and for the life of me can't remember what I paid for it...

but I got it pretty cheap as my mate works at harvey norman...

I also got a bigger propper photography camera with film rather than digital... for a bit of fun... depends on what you want it for... but for a day to day cam... cant go past most canon cameras...

Grey import will save you some money.

DWI

Citiwide

Both sellers are very popular. You won't have any dramas with either.

Personally I use Citiwide as I've found their prices a bit cheaper on the items I've brought.

Get a S90 if you can stretch the budget a little. :spit:

What type of subject matter?

I brought a 7D a month or so ago. Good sports camera at 8fps.

just all round shooting.. nothing too specific.. I used to have a pentax KM and that did really good car shots and scenery shots but someone nicked it. thinking more towards the 50d with a 18-55 lense or 55-250 lense
