Tps Unit Replaced

Cheers f-wolf. I will try that and see how I go. Wow, it took me 5mins to replace the TPS, just have to make sure it's warm so the screws come out and go in with ease. Shonky Ford lol. I'm going to get some Nulon carby cleaner to do the TB. It's easy to pull mine off for cleaning because I have the throttle body relo kit which puts it near the washer bottle. So I'll try the batt disconnect and acc pedal method, clean the TB, and might have a go at WD-40ing the boost solonoid while I'm going.

1st drive didnt seem to fix it so disconnected the battery and will try again this afternoon..

Did you do this.

Disconnect battery .. Earth -, leave it for say 10 Min. Reconnect Battery. Turn on Ignition but do not start. Push down Acc to the floor and count to 15. Take your foot off the pedal turn ignition off... start engine and see how you go.

The above will reset the Acc system.

Its a common misconception that the procedure you have described resets the TPS and ETC, it actually resets the Cam phasers.

The ETC does a self test and calibration each time you turn the key on. It opens and closes the throttle and records the output of the tps as its working range. The tps is actually 2 sensors in one. one goes 0 to 4.8 (ish)V +ve and the other goes 4.8 to 0+ve. The ecu looks for both when it self tests/calibrates.

Idle speed goes high when the tps is faulty as a response by the VCM to prevent the vehicle stalling. Idle air is increased to a preset value to maintain engine idle.

Annoying but not harmful

Ah fair enough, thanks Luke. Yer I don't mind the higher idle, but I get sick of the revs spiking with every change and the stalling when it overrevs at a stop. Especially when I replaced the original BA TPS with the revised Motorcraft one.

i reckon you have another issue there mate. Judging by your symptoms i would looking for an air leak aft the MAP sensor, have you fitted an after market plenum?

Do you have access to a scanner? I would be surprised if it isn't throwing codes with the conditions you describe

Oh rito. No don't have an aftermarket plenum. Well Jamie at Forced Performance has run a scan, and when it starts playing up the throttle light comes on and I connect the flash tuner2 and it doesn't give me a code. It's kind of dangerous too, because sometimes it doesn't drop revs with no throttle, but rather keeps increasing them by itself like its on autopilot. It's just strange that on restart it runs perfect again. Real embarassing when you rock up next to a HSV :surrenderwave:

^^ exactly what mine does, rolling to a stop at the lights in neutral and it revs by itself up to 2600 sometimes then slowly comes down.. people next to me look at like im the worlds biggest tard or the luckiest Learner driver in an F6 hahaha.. feel like such a douche!!

Luke - what else you reckon could cause my high idling since the TPS isnt faulty as ive just replaced it and getting the same issue? TB needs cleaning??

TB clean wouldn't hurt, Check your BOV isnt leaking air at idle mate. You should bring your car over and i'l chuck my scanner on it and see what up

edit: Ross do you have a K&N air filter?

yeh mate, the K&N is the only 'mod' ive got apart from the BOV hahaha.. you home tomorrow at all? might cruise up in the mid-morning and whack ya scanner on it..

il check the BOV this arvo and see if its sucking any in, otherwise il try cleaning the TB

trying to sell the farken thing but want it 100% before it goes esp if it goes privately, big fan of what goes around comes around!

Im busy mid morning but will be home after lunch. Most likely a gummed up t/b from the K&N

what are you replacing it with?

no wuckers, il see if the TB cleaning fixes it otherwise il harass you to come and get it scanned n shiz.. anything I should watch out for when cleaning it?? no I wont just aim the hose at the butterfly while its still on the car hahaha

replacing it til after the financial year with the 'red devil' - a 1994 Ti Pulsar with sunroof.. 4 speed auto... in red... silver hubcaps.. bubbling tint.. every panel dented to the sh*thouse.. 105kw with only 50K kms on the clock .... will have the old ladies 2010 Liberty premium for most weeks and the red devil for weekends haha

then gonna look at an FG XR6T or T ute or G6ET or even a new XR8 with coyote engine if they are as awesome as the mustang tests lead us to believe... maybe even an FG F6 depending on the payrise we supposedly get on 1st July and the novated lease terms etc etc..
