Some years ago, I bought a 12cfm, twin cylinder compressor.

Lately, when you first switch it on, runs fine till it gets almost up to the auto-shut off point then starts to really struggle till it finally reaches full pressure and cuts off.

Once you start to use the air and the pressure drops down to the point where it boots up again, it really struggles to get running again.

Would this be due to a dying electric motor or is there some sort or pressure relief valve that stuffs up and causes it to work so hard to restart?

A new one the same is gonna' cost 600bucks + and if I can fix this one, I reckon it'd be heaps cheaper.......any ideas?? :crybaby:

does it have a pressure guage (silly question I know) what pressure does it cut out and cut back in at?

Does it have an external governor or a fitting welded to the tank?

can you manually operate the relief valve? - the relief vavle should only cause problems if it's leaking.

My guess is the reed valves, if you could replace them yourself it won't cost too much. If you get a shop to do it the cost might go to a couple of hundred.

Maybe get a leccy to check the motor (what amps it draws)

You priced getting a new compressor and using your existing motor and tank or replacing the whole lot?

Cuts out at 120psi.....once in use, when it drops to about 70psi restarts and struggles to get back up to 120 (its like the electric motor is straining):3gears:

Don't know?

Relief valve isn't leaking....there are no leaks at all.

Will try these...

Good idea...will do this...

A new one of the same spec will cost anywhere from 600 for a "no frills" brand up to 1000 for a quality deal.....

Thanks for the pointers sideways :crybaby: will go and check that motor and reed valves....let you ok :spoton:
