Hi guys, I will be gtting a tune done on my car in the next few days. The tuner is in my home town and has done a few cars now. However, I would like to get some info on what is good and bad before he touches it... They are using VCM suite to tune it. Rumour has it that thye have attended a Nizpro seminar (Still doesn't mean they learnt anything), but I am still very cautious..

If someone could tell me what a/f ratios are good and what is dangerous. Even a few dyno sheet would be awesome...

I don't make a million dollars and ahve had to skimp and save a long time to finally get it where I will be happy. I would be devastated if they kill it...

So ! Please help..

Regards Brad

Trust your tuner.

You will get a wide range of answers from different people and most will tell you to run it richer than what is required.

The air fuel ratio is important but not as important as people make out........assuming the spark advance is correct for the air fuel ratio delivered, there can be a big range of what is acceptable with a/f ratio. Once the spark is set for a particular a/f ratio any lean outs from that point can do instant damage

Just google it if you want to understand the concept a bit better. But as said trust your tuner, if he is in that business he should have some idea of what is bad.

From what I have heard, he tends to keeptem a bit rich. As he has destroyed a few motors in the past (Pre Nizpro Seminar). Does tuning them rich galze the bores or cause any damage to the motor? I just want to understand the process more. I wnat to be able to tell the differnce betweena good tune and a bad tune. Before I leave the shop.. When I boot it, and I will. I want to be confident that the tune will not hand grenade the motor..

I have been driving the car for the past week with all of the mods on.. Babying it. And I just simply cannot afford to go to Mackay an get Dave to tune it..

I will later as more funds become available..

even if the tune is a bit rich it will be nowhere near as rich as the factory settings

You'd be surprised at the punishment these engines can take. I drove around for a few years originally with it pinging here and there, and just recently with a muffler change. If you have heard it then you will know when to get off the gas.

Not saying that driving it if it pings is ok because its not.

Trust your tuner as ratter has said.

Pretty sure I know who you're talking about. And they've gotten a sh*tload better. Both mine and dads have been tuned by them with no troubles. Dads was pretty much the test mule, and now its making 420rwhp day in day out with bugger all mods. Mine has just a flash tuner with 360rwhp and I rape it everywhere. Is scott or zane going to do it?
