Hi all , just wondering what oils you guys are using when servicing your XR6T's

I work in the service department at a ford dealership and everyone here really rates Castrol Edge,

may have something to do with our dealership having a contract with castrol to use there products not sure lol , but I have a mate that raves on about this oil caqlled Royal Purple , I have read up about it and farkkk me seems like this stuff is the sh*t !!! , but when pricing it even at my price through work $106 gino's per 5litres and only comes in 5ltr bottles so you have to buy 2 and the engine only takes 6.5 ltrrs .... anyways do you guys have abny thoughts as to what you recommend ??

cheers

I heard from a highly respected mechanic who is a site sponser that castrol edge tends to froth in the engine way too much and is causing sludging issues...IMO any oil that needs a prime-time TV ad to sell isnt worth it. I am currently running Penrite fully synthetic, will try nulon etc. But as with any oil, change it often and use the right grade and you should be right.

Royal purple is fine if you want hundreds of thousands of kays before a rebuild, but for those who move into new cars every 5 years or so, its just a waste of money.

I wouldn't go as far as saying that Royal Purple is a waste of money though, particularly in performance applications.

I use Penrite SIN 15.

It is the correct type of oil for the XR6T engine and I have regular oil samples to monitor the engine.

26k+ kms so far so good.

I use castrol edge 10w-60

It doesnt foam. Change it every 10k.

Pretty sure its the most common one used by tuners too.

Most Mobil, Castrol, Penrite, Nulon, Agip etc oils are good. Just get the right one for your car and change it regularly. Just stay away from cheap and nasty sh*t. I have seen that home brand now sell motor oil. :spit:
