Blown Turbo

hey everyone ive been a member 4 a while but this is my first post.

im pretty cut at the moment, I just limped home from work on a blown turbo, just wondering what your recomendations would be, rebuild current turbo, buy a stock replacement or possibly rebuild and modified...any comments much appreciated, also if anyone knows of any good specialist in sydney please let me know.

Have you inspected the turbo? If you're unsure off what to look for, maybe take some piccys and post them up. Blown turbos are fairly rare on these things if the car is well maintained...

cheers guys much appreciated thanks for the replies, ill try take some photos over the weekend...yeh its gone I took off the piping from the turbo to the manifold and was able to physically rattle the impeller, ive inspected for shavings of steel my guess the bearing has collapsed.... ill get some pics up over the weekend...thanks guys much appreciated.

An amount of play is normal in the impeller. Have a look for bent blades indicating they have come in contact with the housing.

Does it spin freely?

mine blew the other day , 30,000 kms and have cleaned the filter , spoke to a guy that rebuilds turbos he said better off running it without the filter .could not move the impeller and scratch makes on inside of turbo where the blades been

hhmmmmmmmmmmm. dont hear of many blowing- is it mainly due to grit/ dirt etc getting through the filter? or just a lemon?
