Hi.

As anyone who has ever driven an Auto will know, you cannot start a car unless it is in neutral or park. Some cars will only let you start them in park and some will only let you start them in park AND with a foot on the brake.

Years ago I had a HZ van with a Turbo 400 auto trans and it had the same deal, but the owner before me hooked into the switch in the shifter, then called the Auto Inhibitor Switch, and added a longer wire and a switch that was accessible under the seat.

Effectively it was an anti theft device that, if you didn't flick the switch, would confuse the car to think it was NOT in park and therefor would not start.

Is this featur in the BF ZF auto controlled by a simple switch under al lthe plastic? I wouldn't have thought it would be ECU controlled but then who knows.

It is not something I want to play with potentially stuffing the elctromnics on my ZF but if it is a simple thing like a switch actuated by the shift lever, I may well.

Any help?? :3gears:

Dunno how the starter is locked out on our cars, but they are pretty hard to steal without a key from factory. The smartlock system is pretty bloody good IMO, plus most professional car thieves now days just use a tow truck...

Sh1t don't tell me that.

I worry about the bl00dy thing at the moment. It's just in getting more stuff done and I'm getting a bit paranoid.

But you are right. If they really want ti, they will get it no matter WHAT you do.

Ye,.. these cars have a good standard system... after you press the button twice to lock its then alsoimobolised and you can open the door with akey... but I dont believe you can even start it wih the key until you press unlock again. O r that was the theory beind it apparently (acordning to my ford dealer-so who knows? lol)

The system I had the wrx was good... unless you knew the password youcouldnt stat the car...3 wrong passwords and the car shuts down and has to be towed to subaru to get the car rebooted... although... sucked when you hadnt driven it in a while and forgot the code lol...oops

That all sounds good. I wont d1ck with it then.

Fluffer your setup sounds like the lock out units they use to stop repeat drink drivers from starting their car unless they are sober. The company that made them kept getting complaints that no one could work out how to use them when they were drunk. Wonder why that was???

Ye... it was a good set up though... I mean 3 tries and your out was abit harsh I thought...considering I'm a dumb ass and people who have fat fingers may have pressed the wrong numbers by accident... it was good... but in case of needing to get away from somewhere fast... it took sooooo long to get started!
