Well I have put a rod out of the block at 20,000k and again at 70,000k, both stock bottom ends,  does that make me 7 and 8  :spoton:

I have also had 5 auto rebuilds and 2 turbo rebuilds, my utes nickname is steve Austin.

We can rebuild it, we have the technology, to make it faster and more stonger than before.  It's the 6 million dollar part that's scary  :msm:

We were talking QLD.

You can be 1&2 for Vic. :msm::msm::pinch:

same as 260

Hi Nick, I don't think there the same piston.

The 290 has a high compression piston.

290 Vs 260

Differences as follows:

These are the goodies a 290 has over its little brother the 260

FPV high-compression pistons and piston ring pack

FPV re-engineered conrods with fully floating gudgeon pin

FPV high-lift inlet camshaft (13mm lift)

FPV high-lift exhaust camshaft (12mm lift)

FPV valves, valve springs and finger followers

FPV balanced crankshaft

Heavy-duty bearings.

Funny it says fully floating gudgeon pin this is the same for both the 260 and 290 motors and all so the turbo motor so go figure.

Yes the pistons matbe different but I think you will find the rods are the same.

If anyone has had a catastrophic failure lets hear about it.

Jeez, it's bloody quiet, isn't it.

I can't believe no one's had a catastrophic engine failure. Makes me wonder why people are forking out the big bucks for the built motors :spoton:

Is putting a leg out of the block catastophic?

It is if it were mine! And there are plenty of examples here now.............

As I stated there has been some go with less than 300rwkw's so to answer your question there is one rule to it.

That rule is it will happen but who knows when.

So regardless of how good our tunes and afrs might be, we're all sitting on a ticking time bomb?? and just when I thought my gearbox was the only thing I had to worry about.
