T51'S On 4L ... What A/Rs Do You Guys Run?

currently got a T51 (journal bearing) with a 1.22 (rear A/R) to go onto my 4L (stock head and cams, but with the atomic race valve springs).

talking to a few people, they say this might be a tad too large.

so for those running T51s on their 4Ls, whats the turbo specs you use, what power you pushing, and what rpm does it hit max boost?

You will not be happy with a Journal Bearing T51r & 1.22 buddy, full boost will hit between 4300-4500 depending on what gear and load your running auto/manual etc...

its for my capri. running Powerglide, currently got 4.56 diff gears (need to go taller, something like 3.23 approx). and transbrake of course

just wondering even though its going on a transbrake'd dedicated drag car (never will see the street etc),

is the rear A/R too large, and will I need NOS to get it onto boost on transbrake? ... because im trying to avoid using Nos.

would you recommend a 1.06 rear housing or similar then?

Mate if it is for your Capri, stay with the 1.22 buddy, also the Journal bearing version will be easier to maintain and service just keep an eye on it..

The necessity of NOS will depend on your converter, I suggest Mechanical diode 3800rpm as a minimum...

Good choice all in all...

You won't be disappointed for this application...

yeh I chose the oil cooled (no water cooled) due to ease of servicing and no water lines etc.

it spools a tad later, but that's ok.

my car is currently at Allfast Convertors now, we are just waiting on my Atomic flexplate to arrive (chrome moly goodness mmmm)

its getting a coverter similar to Rod Sammits EL XR6T (motec, big turbo, china manifold, so forth) that has been running 9s and now 8.80 .. the car still has door trims.

so I know it should be alright :)

cheers :) it shall be interesting. all depends on if the cars chassis can take it. :P

ran 8s with 650 fly HP with the clevo 383... the torque of this turbo setup may kill it haha

btw would the 3" comp cover on the T51 be ok?

it has no markings (as it has been polished), except for M2.

the inducer is 76mm lol.. guessing its a 0.7 A/R front?

havent removed the comp housing yet to see how big the turbine actually is, but it looks like its gonna be a huuuuge exducer on it haha

You may as well start as is Tocchi, the next immediate step would be the extrude honing of your current cover... However I anticipate that you will out grow this step and it's necessity quite quickly if your drive line holds up.... :beerchug:
