So when a cop gets with in range it turns your detector off so you dont know there is a cop there.

My next door neighbor has been using them for years. He has them wired into his bikes too and recons he wouldn't have a license without them. He does a lot of interstate stuff for work.

He said he mainly uses it to sit on 120 or 130 on the Hume and it does the job for him.

The police here have access to radar detector detectors which can be used at times within HWP vehicles. Best thing you can do if you have a radar detector is to switch it off when you see a police vehicle.

These days I think there is less and less need to have a radar detector. A laser blocker is more useful.

Maybe the driving technique is the answer. Don't become a target of the Cops. Stories of getting booked 3 or 4 time for less than 8 k over the limit are crap. I have over 40 years driving - now have an XR6T ex NSW HWP . I cover about 40,000 k per year and haven't been booked for 30 years. And I have been know to enjoy the car at times. It is rare I don't see a HWP car every day in my area. They are quite active and I am well known ( only other car like mine is still in uniform) It's the way you drive that makes the difference. PS Had radar detectors years ago - decided a good cruise control was a much better idea.

Escort passport 9500ix,it has gps too so it remembers when its passed the same false 3 times and auto excludes it. Comes in blue led to match the gauges too, as well as a voice telling you what its detected, eg "KA band".

Great bit of kit, wont save you from instant on ka though, luckily most cops over here leave it turned on all the time, which will give you up to a km of warning depending on the terrain.
