valantine 1 is the best detector for WA

the sti is a better detector but the valantine is better suited to wa

it has a narrowband feature specifically to detect multinova speed cameras and does give the best warning.

the sti does not have this feature

I have an sti and its ok but would recommend the v1 after seeing a mates in action.

This is correct I forgot to mention the Valentine 1 , it indeed has a narrow band feature for multinovas (KA 34 meg) and I think it is good value for money. IS ONLY GOOD FOR WA as it can be detected in other states. It will be use at your own risk if detectors become illegal in WA. The only one that will be safe to use (hidden of course ) will be the STI. Arron

Esky, the Bel STi-R also has that feature you talk of.

http://www.dontgetcaught.com.au/catalog/it...084/5371731.htm

* 100% undetectable by all police radar detector detectors.

* Full, hidden installation.

* Band specific scanning - for example, you just need to detect Ka 34.3ghz in WA - no other Ka-band scanning required which means longer detection range

* Tech mode allows you to identify what frequency is being used in your state allowing you to set band specific scanning to increase your detection range.

* Next-gen laser protection with multiple laser sensors (5 in total).Covers all K, Ka, and laser used throughout Australia

I am in WA. I have an old Bel 645. If you set it on "City" I think it blocks out X band, but I really would like to get one where you can choose which bands you want on and which ones you want off. Is this valentine good for this.

For the last 10 years you could have gotten away with just a Ka band detector for multinovas (you will get caught with laser regardless) but a couple of months ago got done by a mobile radar in the coppers car in a metro area. Previously these were used only by country cops and were easily detectable because of the ground pulse it gave off (I think ground pulse was X band in the olden days).

Didnt have detector on that night so dont know what band these "new tech" mobile in car speed guns operate on.

turbotrana,

all the police cars I have seen use the k-band (which is the same as the servo doors). last time I saw it go off for a car was ~6 months ago, so not sure if it has been changed since then, and the range is huge!

for example (for the rocko folks) it started to go off as I went over the overpass on read street opposite the shops (heading south) and the car passed me at the wilmott drive intersection. that's like 4kms!

I think you'll find that's more like 2km's Keiran but still a huge range for portable radar. Don't know how accurate they'd be from that far though so they'd probably need to wait til they were closer before taking a confirmed reading. By that time you're already slowed down to the limit :hmmm:
