I dont think I would risk using one myself but yes speedo inacuracy is huge on some vehicles my ford ranger work ute will read 130 on the speedo and the gps will say I'm only doing 108 ,yes most speedo's are inacurate in favor of the speed limit ie read higher than what you are doing but if you had one that worked the other way you would be in the sh*t

There is a great feature in our Falcons, its called "Speed Alert", once you go over a pre-determined speed, it will chime at you.....

Pure genius I know, and it would appear it takes a even bigger genius to use it.

Pretty useless unless your driving in one speed limit zone everywhere you go.

Law abiding my A$>>>> In WA they will book you for doing 106km/h in a 100 zone. 6km over the limit is a fine and most Speedos are only accurate to within 10% so go figure!! Change your tire type or manufacturer and its out again. 99% of Speedo's are not correct yet we get booked for doing 6km over.

that is why most if not all manufacturers calibrate there speedos bellow actual speed, if you read either one of the car mags (moto or wheels) they show the actual speed at an indicated speed of 100kph. generally it is in the region of 95-99kph and never above 100kph

Aftermarket wheels or different profile tyre will throw that off though. 6km/hr is a little rediculous in my opinion as all it takes is a little touch of the go pedal to get there

I dont do much hwy/fwy driving im always driving on roads that vary with speeds its hard to always stick to the speed limit especially with these cars u just have to breath on the go pedal and your already over the speed limit. I would love a radar detector (bit too expensive) why the hell are they legal in WA but nowhere else? revenue raising pricks.

I do heaps of hwy driving and I've been fined for doing 102kmph in a 100 zone.. its quite stupid. I don't like using cruise control because it makes the drive to comfortable and I've almost nodded off.

I've never heard of "Speed Alert" before  might have to look into it :D

Has anyone got one of these radar detectors?

They seem pretty decent, and there is videos of it working here in Western Australia.

I can pick a new one up relatively cheap and I'm thinking of getting one. plus the blue lights will match the gauges and interior lights in the car :surrenderwave:

perhaps pm arronm, he has done alot of testing with them and will be able to give you more info. I think he likes the escort and bel more than the whistler, but dont quote me on that. I have a older bel, it works well.
