Lidar is instant on, and some radar detectors claim to be abale to detect lidar and they actually can, but when they detetect it, is when its been fired at your car and your speed is captured. Radar is switched on and off for longer periods of time and you have a chance against it by slowing down before a lock is gained on you, but with Lidar the lock is by a laser and instantly captures your speed.I wont enter the never ending debate about radar detector detectors, but here in NSW, the offence of 'drive with speed evasion article" equates to well over $1000 and a whopping 9 (yes 9) dmereit points. There obsolute old technology. I was bounced in 1998 and it was $1250 then with my so-called undetectable system. years of research and Lab testing later I offer for the uwise that they all emit a detectable signal from the detector's own LO (Local Oscillator) out through the radar detector's horn. One of the biggest giveaways is the apparently random application of heavy braking once your detector goes off. As for laser jamming....don't get me started.Wise up guys.Dingah Edited 05/11/06 08:28 AM by dingah2

I heard then afetr a while thru another forum that bel dist's could also do this so check it out.. mines that good ive never bothered again and mate now works in culcutta india had a whistler then a valentine and a rx75 in my other car,, still think value for money the 65 wins hands down.. isnt that what most net reviews used to say? might have changed though.. Possession and its appearnce in or on your car somewhere amounts only to mere suspicion not unequivical proof of its use.

He said he'd lost his license for 3 months for an infringement back in May. I asked what speed he was doing and said he wasnt speeding, he got done for having a radar detector. Apparently he was approaching the back of a police car which was stationary at a set of traffic lights even though they were green. He went passed the police car and it took off after him. They serveyed his car for a little while, and my customer was thinking, whats he gonna get me for. He didnt actually realise that he had his detector on at this point. It was in the centre console. Then the penny dropped. As soon as he turned the detector off, the highway car got him.Apparently the coppa came to the window and firstly advised him he was being recorded, and said we have detected your law evaiding device which carries an $1175.00 fine and 9 demerits. He asked for the device to be produced and if he didnt, it would be another $1175.00 fine, plus the car would be placed on a tow truck and impounded until the device was found at $7.00 a day. After the coppa had calmed down, he said there were 4 brand new RDD's purchased by the police and they arrived in April of this year. One is up near Dubbo and another is on the Pacific Hwy around the Ballina area. Edited 06/11/06 06:42 AM by FLASHXR

I am thinking of updating an old BEL that I have been using since 1996. I have found them very useful. I only get a 25 to 50m warning but that's plenty to slow down. The good thing with slant radar is that you get very few false alerts. I wish I could switch my old radar so it only recognises slant in the city then it would remain quiet as. With lasers you will get picked up regardless and my detector will only pick it up whens its on my car. If the beam is on the car next to me it wont pick up unlike the old x bands from years ago where you always picked up the signal. My mate has the RX65, and lately he's been complaining about multinova detection.Even my missus, who went in his wifes car with that detector thinks my Escort Passport X50 picks up multinova's a hundred times earlier. You will never pickup laser in time, but you can jam laser, which is illegal anywhere.←ahh but have u flashed to the new software from an agent or bell in US mate??mines way better than my older one.. ex(dont go there!) missus wanted my 2004 rx65 and I got a new one from a friend in the states in mid 2006.. cheap as.. but when we hooked them up in the same car side by side the newer model that looks identical had newer software in it and picked up multi's miles ahead.. so I sent the old one to mates in texas to see if bel could do anything.. he told me they flashed it while he stood there and gave it back and said "your aussiiee budddy shouldnt have any probs now mieght!"(bad texan accent).. got it back and its like the newer one..
