yes true, the 5 people that have been caught are from leaving it on the dash, or leaving it plugged in even with a detection..

Phewww. You almost riuned my optimistic outlook.

So as I've said a few times in this thread. RDDs no doubt work, work perfectly in a lab environment, but in the real world, with real world problems, real world people using them (or not bothering to use them), real world laws ......nothing.

Just a matter of being extremely careful and I doubt many are.

I think RDDs are a great, but expensive publicity stunt.

I can assure you in a real world they are lethal, say u r driving on the hume hwy, a cop could have his radar off and RDD on, he will detect you 1km away and you are none the wiser....by the time you see him he pretty much knows its you....only a line of 10 cars will save you there, I have seen a video of the RDD working in traffic and they busted the bloke, it took them 8 or so cars to pinpoint what car it was in but he got busted.

Turbo xr; the best detector to get is the BEL RX65 or the Valentine 1 but wait as there is a new one coming out with RDD immunity. I just dont speed anymore so I have no need for one, but I still like the technology and testing of them.

Seem to have a problem either reading or believing Power...fact - I was busted on the Hume abeam Goulburn - perhaps you would like a photocopy of the ticket. The reality is that they do work - fact, are used - fact and have successfully busted users - fact.... how hard is that to understand for God's sake?

Jaskel - what is the technological breakthrough that makes the new radar detectors imune - any idea? Unless the leakage of local osciallator out through the horn can be suitably interfered with or stopped, hard to see how such claims can be true.

Man! That's what I wanted (well..didn't want :spoton: ) to hear. 1st real-life on the road example.

Cheers for the heads up mate!

EDIT: Oh yeah, never had a problem reading! :msm:

Well being into Amateur Radio I have studied these toys as well purely out of curiosity, here are my opinions based on what I could find, which by the way varies because everyone out there has an opinion based on what they are trying to sell you etc.

Best detectors for AU are Escort 8500x50 and Bel Pro RX65 both units are VG2 immune also are programmable which means you can shut down the X band (not used in AU) and is only prone to false alarms (supermarket auto doors etc) and both units rate #1 and 2 in many independent tests. Forget Valentine 1 although its a very good unit it cannot have the X band programmed which could be just an annoyance you don’t need due to false alarms, especially in the city areas also a very expensive RD for a plug in. Also both these units warn you if a Police RDD is active which means you can simply turn off until the coast is clear (VG-2 only, more on this below)

Info on RDD, Radar-Detector Detectors

Protection against VG-2

The VG-2 Interceptors are used in some US States, Canada, and Australia where radar detectors are illegal to use and/or possess. In the US, it controls trucks and the Virginia and D.C. banding on detectors. The above Detectors are both Immune to VG-2 and in fact the Escort x50 is also immune to VG-3

Now here is the problem guys

There is an RDD (Radar-Detector Detector) called the Stalcar

Protection against Spectra RDD (Stalcar) is Very little......The Spectra RDD, is a strong detector that has been programmed for most of the latest radar detectors on the market. Only a selected few detectors have avoided the Spectra RDD. Though careful, again this unit can easily be modified to detect those detectors as well.

Where used...

The Stalcar is used ONLY in Australia. Since Australia has banned almost all use of radar detectors, this unit was made especially for the HWP's. There are currently 50+ units active. More are on there way, but at a price of $2750.00(Australian) per unit.

So my opinion is

If you’re going to use an RD, use it in the suburbs where you get those nasty money hungry a holes sitting in their cars waiting for some poor bugger to go 3k over.

If you’re on the Highway and your worried about getting booked for this device, well leave it at home and drive safely (unless of course you can legally use it).

Laser protection? Forget it, If your RD also has Radar Detection (which most nowadays do) by the time you detect it your already Booked!! Laser is Light and the guns can pinpoint you and read your speed before you can say Bluddy Hell, Wast of technology but fun I suppose.

My choice (If I could legally own a Radar Detector) would be the Escort Solo 2. Its Portable (Battery Operated) and is the Best Portable on the market with only slightly reduced performance compared to the top plug in models and even better than some of the lower priced plug-ins. I ride a motorbike so I can just slip it into my jacket pocket and plug in an earphone and that’s it (That is if it was Legal here and I actually owned one, which I do not).

If you want to see a Video of the Escort 8500x50 in action (the sexy one with the blue lights) go here its cool.

I don’t claim to know it all guys but I’m still searching and reading up on it so if anyone has a different or better opinion then please share
