Listen up you guys - these things are illegal and I can speak from a position of a past bitter experience...I wasn't even using mine but transporting somewhere for testing in a totally different application.....it's a bloody expensive business to get caught.

I am let us say 'close' to those that were involved in the design and manufacture of the detector-detectors too and believe me merely hiding it from sight achieves absolutely zip and your naiviety in believing so borders on the amusing...in all likelihood where some of you propose to hide the detector will likely make it even more detectable.

Not wanting to get into the Geek side of things all such detectors contain a local oscillator which is fundamental to their function.  That means that they all 'bleed' a transmission back out of the front/rear horns regardless of the manudfacturers' claims and can all be detected, quite confidently by patrol cars so equipped - generally limited to highway patrol.  So if you want to spend $500 to be fined $1500 with potential loss of licence then go for it, but this proposal is absolutely illegal and has a very questionable place on a public forum such as this.  As for those knowingly seeking to import such goods for illegal use...stand by.

Not doubting your sincerety and yes, knowing the theory from my radio background I agree, but if switched off you can't detect an LO full stop! Even if you detect it going by....which car?

In Sydney I don't see many or in recent months ANY Police sitting by the side of the road or hiding in the bushes trying to bust people (remeber they replaced the highway patrol with cameras  ).

Stop them all and strip them like a full on drug search to find a little black box in a secret hidy-hole? Even if you do detect an LO, man is that going to be prone to interference and being so sensitive it's going to get it's front end overloaded from almost any transmitter of decent power.

Having said all that I could be wrong and people are getting caught every day. :tease:

But has anyone ever read a newspaper report, seen any articles on the 'Net, any police pulications, ANYTHING to show a single real case of someone busted by a radar-detector-detector? It would make great news and I'm sure the police PR people and the media would be right on it.

I'm not advocating breaking the law, I'm just questioning wether the reality of the fear generated by these detector-detectors is BS.

You are correct that if the unit is switched off, it CANNOT BE DETECTED.

No matter what RDD the cops are using.

If used correctly, the chances of being busted are remote.

Just because they are illegal, does not mean you cannot use them. If you know the punnishments for using one, and you know your rights then you accept the responsibility if you are caught, simple as that.

I know many people who have been using them for over 10 years everyday and never been busted, nor have they had a fine. They can pay themselves off in no time at all.

Please re-read what I have posted.

For one yes I have been successfully detected when not operating the system for purpose of evading anyone and I was not speeding at the time.

Second I can give you every scientific assurance having participated in laboratory research and demos this is no BS and the systems to detect these are in plentiful supply to those requiring them to enforce the law.

Are they planning to make them illegal in WA? I do remember this was raise a few years ago but have hear nil since then. Surely it can only be a matter of time before we fall into line with the rest of Oz. Having said that the speeding fine in WA are very small compared to the Police states on the overside of OZ !

what you blokes need is a radar detector detector detector (RDDD) so when you detect a radar detector detector, you can turn your radar detector off. :spoton:

I think the biggest problem is not the police driving around with RDD’s but the damn Cameras taking picks of you doing 5km over the limit.

Farkkkkk me there is a 10% tolerance in most Speedos in cars coupled with all sorts of tire brands and rolling circumference, then allow for variation in the speed cameras themselves and man doesn’t stand a hope in hell of getting a fair go!

I’d say at a guess that probably as much as 80% of tickets are now camera generated not from Police personal and then couple that with how many police cars carry and even use RDD’s? Your chance of getting caught is maybe 1% if you’re unlucky!

Then what do the Police do with laser Jammers? They have no means of detecting them!! Ask any NSW Traffic cop he will tell you the Force won’t buy them so the truckers keep using them and the Police cant do zip.

Revenue raising? Policing or whatever you like call it its not very accurate to say the least.

Either way I don’t feel I should be paying fines for 5km over the limit in the Police opinion and with their dodgy hardware so I’ll use mine as I’ve done for the last 15 years and keep using it.. Like many your driver’s license might be you and your family’s livelihood.

For those outside WA, especially NSW like me, I'm having a friend check with the NSW Highway Patrol to see if anyone actually gets done by these detector-detectors.

About a week or so and I'll have the info.

For those who care.... :spoton:
