So that IS alternator whine I'm hearing in my BF? The subtle high-pitched whistle sound heard when the command centre/stereo is on Aux?

It increases in pitch as your engine revs do?

MIne was doing the same but I also have a car full of communications equipment. I ran earth straps from the boot to the body, bonnet to body, and also under the car from tow bar to chassis. Ran a large flat earth strap from neg supply in the boot straight to chassis as well. Cured all the whining.

Hats off to My_XR6_Turbo.

Just did this on my car after suffering for nearly a year of sh*t radio receiption and bad whines in the audio.

Now I have a very slight whine when on Aux, but its a 10th of what it was before. No whine on any other of the radio modes anymore. And my radio receiption is now flawless, compared to the fluttering I was getting before.

One happy camper here. :icon_ford:

I have my battery in the boot and have always had bad alternator whine before moving. When I fitted my PW surge tank the other day I also ran a 0guage cable from the alternator bolt that hold the pos+ cable and also tried the alternator bracket bolt to the chassis where the engine earth strap is with a clean joint.

Both positions did nothing for me and actually think to some extent made it worse?

I am having surgery on Tues but in prob 3 months from now will double earth the battery and try different battery earth points again.

I think that my alternator though is stuffed even though it charges fine my water pump shat itself as few years ago and leaked all over it for a good few days so the bearings and internals may be rusted.

Last alternative is putting the battery back up front in the wheel arch.
