you might be able to get away with just touching it up, I beleive you will have to fill the scratch first, then get some paint colour matched, then with a very fine artist brush you can carefully paint the scratch, then buff it smooth.not sure if panel shops do this still. this is what I did for the chips on my bonnet though.lol.im cheap.

but if you get it sprayed then they will prob only take back to metal approx 10mm eaither side of the scratch to metal and then fade it out.then prime n paint. but because its on the lower half the door, they prob wont colour paint the whole door just the area they prime, but they will reapply clear to the whole door. so its prob not gonna be as bad as you think colour matching wise.hope this makes sense.

the scratch is actually smack bang in the middle of the door, not the lower half. The highest point of the scratch is almost in line with the bottom of the door handle surround. Not sure what processes are normally used to fix this sort of thing but he said a proper job would require the whole door to be stripped back to bare metal and then painted. Anyway, he said to my old man he can try fill it in using the touch up paint that Ford provide you in the little bottle, and then buff it smooth, and if it ends up looking good just leave it at that and pay him just for that...if it still looks sh!t, he'll strip the whole door back and just paint the whole thing. He didn't give a cost as to what this may cost though, so I'm gonna pop down tomorrow myself and have a chat with him and see what he can do for me. If he thinks he can touch up the scratch and make it look like it was never there, and if it can actually still look like that after 6 months then I'll just get him to do that.

Dunno man, just going by what this bloke told my dad. I think it's the colour of the car that requires stripping back the whole door. Anyway gonna chat to him tomorrow see what we can do. Still annoyed about this. I know it can be fixed, but that money could've gone to the 20 inch argents I had planned. Now I gotta wait a while. While I'm at it, might get this guy to touch up a few other little chips for me, and ask him how much he'd charge me to paint a set of dark argents in gloss black. I want to either get them painted gloss black, or get them full polished, just for something different.
