Some a$$hole keyed my 3 week old car today in a shopping centre car park. It was keyed on the driver door. I got a feeling it was the stupid Expensive Daewoo driver parked next to me. Man you can't even have a nice car these days because some jealous f*ckwit has to ruin it for you, after you've worked so hard to earn it. I waited 6 months to find the right car in perfect condition, and this has to happen. I even parked in a corner spot, far away from the other car next to me to make sure nobody hit my doors. I didn't notice the scratch until I got home. Got out the car, closed the door and my heart sank when I seen this big white line on my door.

I just wanna know, is there any point going to the Police or will they not care? I'm about to go for a drive back down to that car park to see if there were cameras around. I really don't wanna go through insurance because the excess will cost me more than it would cost to get fixed privately, and I ruin my rating for nothing. I just hate the fact that I have to fork out to fix the damage that someone else did, especially now when I am short on funds. I'm hoping it won't be too hard to fix, as it is Ego in colour, so I'm not sure how hard Ego is to match. I just want it to look the way it was, so you can't tell it's been repaired. I've attatched 2 pics of the damage below (sorry for the poor quality...phone pics). Does anyone have a rough idea of what it might cost to fix? I'm gonna get my dad to get a quote for me next week but just want an idea of what I should be paying. The scratch doesn't appear to be to the metal, but it is quite deep. I'm just wondering if the whole door needs to be painted or not.

That sucks @rse.

Dont bother with the police or the carpark mob.

Same thing happened to the inlaws Cruiser, they got video of the guy walking up to the car and keying it but the police said they cant prove who the person was.

yeah I was bloody pissed, would've loved to catch the guy in the act. Would've got the beating of his life. Could be a shopping trolley, but I dunno...there's no dent or anything, just looks like it was scratched with a sharp metal object. Either way it's screwed.

That sucks Maximus. Can't believe they had footage of the guy and did nothing. Well I guess I won't be bothering with cops. Bloody useless.

Sorry to hear it mate....

Try the Touch-up guys, you'd be surprised at what they can do...

That looks very low on the door....why would somebody bend down that low to key a car? Just doesn't make sense to me :buttrock:

Here is a pic of the Cruiser.

For some reason these LOW LIFE SCUM SUCKING B@STARDS seem to only be able to reach that high as there car was scratched BELOW the plastic strip the same as yours.

Yeah saw a pic of the cruiser while searching for other similar threads. Was it to metal? Looks a lot worse than mine. How much did it cost to get fixed, if you don't mind me asking?

Maybe these guys are short and try to be discreet about it by keeping their arm low so it's not too noticable what they are doing...I dunno lol. I just don't know what goes through the minds of people when they do things like this...like seriously, what do you gain out of it? I just can't understand it.

Thanks Bionic. Heard about the touch-up guys...but I think this would need more than a touch up lol. I'm really anal about my car, and any repairs such as this would have to be perfect so that it looks like it was never damaged in the first place. Anyway, there is a local spray painter that my dad knows who is pretty good, so my dad is gonna take it to him during the week while I'm at work to get a quote. I'm hoping he'd be able to repair it without having to paint the whole door, but I'm not sure how hard Ego is to blend/colour match. Either way, I don't care if the whole door has to get painted as long as it looks the way it was. I'm thinking bout getting other little chips and stuff touched up while I'm at it lol. Copped 2 little ones on the edge of the door that I wouldn't mind fixing. Anyway, if anyone has had their car keyed to this extent (or thereabouts), I wouldn't mind hearing how much it set you back to get fixed...just to get an idea of how much I'm looking at.

Most jobs will require a full panel respray. You cant really just throw some paint on it to blend it. Can you catch you finger nail clearly in it? If not then you may be able to get it buffed out. But I agree with others, it doesn't look like a key job. Most tw@s if going through the efforts will do it much longer. Dont bother with insurance and the only way you could ever get the police interested is with surveillance footage of the DH and them then getting into a car with some viewable plate. I hate people like this though.
