Posted 13/02/10 12:44 AM Share Posted 13/02/10 12:44 AM Last night I went to see Top Gear at the Acer Arena in Sydney. Despite the crappy weather that took the gloss off many of the outdoor displays we took our seats inside to see what Clarkson and Co. had to offer.. So in the absence of Richard Hammond, who do they trot out as guest presenter??? None other than the Greg "The Handbag" Murphy.....(first negative impression for the night) I'm thinking "great" now Ive got to listen to this stroker with his annoyingly squeaky voice talking up the Expensive Daewoo for the night while surrounded by a horde of dark side supporters.... Clarkson and May did their usual by throwing barbs at one another while parading a host of exotics that most of us will never own anyway....before the handbag brings out a V8 Expensive Daewoo ute that he reckoned was better than all of them.....go figure A couple of stunt driving sequences with obviously purposely built vehicles that looked like they were just following a routine done many times over....abeit, with a fancy light show and some pyrotechics to make it look better... although, some of the "precision parking manouveres" were worthy of merit.. The Stig came out briefly to shoot up some "bad guys" in a car wars sort of deal then did a loop the loop in a pretty tame looking wall of death contraption they had set up....yeah right The show went for only about an hour and a half...should I have expected more for the $130 ticket? I'm a car nut fair enough....but for similar money, I could have bought a ticket for a rock concert that I probably would have enjoyed even more. Yeah it was OK, plenty of laughs, far outweighed by the level of corniness though.Would recommend that all real car enthusiasts NOT go and see it.
