My mate at work has one, the bug eyed model tuned to 16psi with a VF34, exhaust and front mount. It makes 191KW at the wheels. I rape him in my FG every time and he sooks over how much money he spent to get owned by a nearly stock XR6T.

I used to have a 99 WRX with 200awkw, and I can tell you that would have smoked my manual XR6T when I was running 340rwkw, from a standing start.

The only time my XR6T would smoke my rex was on a motorway roll. Anything under 80kmh, forget it, the rex would pull lengths.

First three gears in my rex were manic. The way it got up and went, no street XR6T, manual atleast, would get near it.

A ZF auto XR6T would stand a better chance though.

Tell your mate to get rid of the front mount, and put a decent top mount on it. Then he'd stand a better chance.

I keep telling him to put a process west fat top mount on it. Horses for courses, I have no reason to fib about it, he 191KW and I smoke him. Don't know why but I do. Maybe its the torque?

Dunno if you think I think you're fibbing, becasue I don't. I don't doubt that you smoke him, doesn't surprise me at all.

And I can tell you why you smoke him.

By putting a front mount on it he has lost the greatest advantage the rexes have, response. For very little gain I might add, as his peak power is well within a top mount intercoolers ability. If he put Process West top mount on it he'd get all his response back, and still manage the same peak power.

The 01s were also slugs to start with, being quite a bit heavier than the classic shape rex.

Front mounts have done more damage than good to the rexes street cred. How often do you hear someone tell you that they "smashed a modified rex"? How do they know it was modified? "Had a front mount, so it must have some work done to it". When in fact, a front mount is a very poor modification on a street rex, and does more harm than good.

It's the ones that look stock you should worry about. :innocent:

Its all good mate. When he bought it it already had the FMIC, and to me it looks like a cheapie. Its installed nicely, but still looks cheap. He kind of ums and ahs as to what to spend money on next, I can't get through to him about putting the PW top mount on, if he wants to waste money on other crap I'll just laugh every time I hear him talk about how quick it is, especially when I get around to a tune! Beats the hell outta me why he bought a bug eye anyway they look terrible :innocent:

I don't own a WRX Brett, I own an Impreza STi :innocent:

Respect for the STI but not the wrx which every boy racer and his dog thinks will beat anything else on 4 wheels

I have raced 2 WRXs one '97 and other was '98 at the same time, they were both basically stock except for exhaust and handling mods, I have an '03 BA XR6T 4-spd Auto(stocker only CAI) and I'm telling ya these guys could keep up off the line but couldn't catch me for the life of them.
