I'm with Ken. Last night I slept a fitful sleep with a shadowy nightmare forming in my mind. It involved 'LASER' car washes and my black beast. The LASER beam of water pressure was peeling slabs of paint off her flanks. {tossed and screamed at this point}

No F***Ken <_< way.

{says he who has monster garage and rolladoors with slab floors with good drainage....} you never heard that from me I swear... B)

I once used the laser wash and it blasted all of the polish off the car. Never again.

If I use the car wash, I'll give it a go with the wash and then use a low pressure rinse. I'll then drive it home (not too far to go) and give it a wipe over with a clean cloth I have set aside before polishing/waxing etc.

Just went to check out the two car washes in my area ... one is at Narellan, where RJS works on a Saturday (I think) and the other, a little closer to home, but basically the same set up.

All manner of high-pressure stuff and aroma thingy's.

I had a quick chat to the lady at Narellan which came to an abrupt end when she informs me that I must use their cleaning products, shampoo, etc. Can't use my because of EPA regulations. :o

So instead of using my Mequires Gold, I'm going to use their 20c/litre detergent? Not f*cking likely!

Now I'm all for water restrictions and I understand that we must all be good citizens ... however, my only alternative (as I now see it) is to drive the car into my back yard, close the garage doors and wash her on the lawn.

My experience with the laser wash thing a year or so ago was that it did not clean my car properly. ie. the car was really dirty and it didn't get all the dirt off. It was really noticable and I haven't used it since. :(

same here. I went to the local and the attendand told me that if I was not happy with the result he would wash it by hand. He ended up washing my car.

The results from these touchless car washes can't be good. If you have something that is dirty, such as a car that has driven through rain, the spray on the car is greasy and sticks pretty well. To get it of you need to wipe it off with a nice sponge that picks up the contaminants. I thing a high pressure spray will have a sandblasting effect, pushing the contaminants into the soft clear coat. IMHO.

I find laser washes good to get most of the dirt off.

That way when you wash it by hand, you dont have to worry about dirt sticking inside your spounge or mitt and scratching your paint because there isnt that much of it.

I'm looking into getting a water tank for the back yard and a pressure hose unit (Repco have one for $148, 1200psi).

Can't hide the car in the back yard ken, as they would be able to fine you if your bills are too high (sounds weird).

I'll just take the car into the local car wash and do it myself with their pressure hoses if the cost of a water tank is too much, and if it doesnt rain enough to fill it up...

I was thinking exactly the same thing Cro.

Shopping around for info and prices on Karchers etc this weekend after seeing the Bosch unit on the front of the Repco catalogue.

We are allowed to wash car with a bucket, yes? Well, get a BIG bucket, fill with water, and have the Karcher suck that water up. When empty, repeat.

that's plan A anyway. Depending on how much water it needs, and the price of a tank suitable (couple of hundred litres), plan B may involve setting up to catch rainwater off the roof. I think these restrictions will be with us a while, and there is no way my baby is going without its weekly wash. May as well get set up properly.

With the Karcher trick, set it up to use a gravity feed as well... Sort of siphon effect for the water feed into it will make it run mucho better. At about 7-9L a minute is what these things use at full blast....

A 40L 'tub' (err bucket) on a stand shoudl get the car done easy ;)

A.
