If it blows, replace it with a single piece unit that would be stronger and without these issues for less $$$$$$ than the 2 piece one. A std 9 inch diff has a 4" (???) diameter shaft and these can take more abuse than most street cars can dish out in sensible treatment.

Ball type cv's just can't handle the torque these things have. The ball cages are always flimsy and don't locate the balls in the exact position they need to be in long term......and the outer sleeve is far from "substantial". Contact area of the ball/slot is also far from ideal. Even 2 piece truck shafts have the good old trunnion style uni's.

Also, the splined stub that is part of the shaft has a load of leverage on it.....hmmmmm.....not my first choice for a shaft. Probably why the shaft outside diameter is so damn small in the first place......a little more twist allowed to protect the smaller spline diameter by loading it slightly more gradually.

A bit of late reply but I have now installed the Herrods kit into my ute, SL all round and no problems so far. It's been in for 2 weeks now and I have given it a bit of a workout but it is still needing a wheel alignment and another go on the U bolts with the rattle gun as they recommend.

No problems at all, no noises, looks and handles a hell of a lot better so in my opinion money well spent. No axle tramp either.

The price is fairly high but it's good to hear you've had no problems with the herrod kit. Is yours an auto or manual though, cause from what I've read on here the auto's are more prominent to the cv/tailshaft failure.
