hey there!

ok I have a question for you all. I had my car in the other day to have my brand new Malwood option 3 clutch put in when my mate whos a high level mechanic said it wouldnt be a bad idea removing the "cat" which he said is resisting a lot of power flow and just drop in a straight pipe where the cat sits. I was wandering what your thoughts were on this option and what the side effects were? I know sound will be a factor but will I need a retune and anythng else if I drop a straight pipe in. also im currently running a 2.5" Xforce exhaust so any info will be appreciated. also any other alternatives and costing as well!

cheers guys!

Most obvious point is it's illegal and can attract a serious fine if you're willing to take the chance.

And yeah it'll need a retune :buttrock:

Just smash the cat out then it appears to be there. Or rebuild a cat looking thing around a straight pipe, anything to make it look as if its there.

I have an interchangeable strait through on my bike. For the track. And it makes a lot of difference up in the rev's.

You can here the change in note up top too.

They aren't mandatory on a bike yet, if they have one on std though they have to have one.

you get more drown / flow / power out of a gutted cat. I had one in my car but got EPA'ed. Car was 91db. 90 is legal so had to get a cat and said F**K it and leave it on. Not worth the extra efforts.

You probably would be best to just get a high flow cat. Only difference between a straight through pipe and properly smashed out cat is that the cat acts kinda like an expansion chamber in that section but the actual airflow between the 2 shouldnt be too different.

To remove the cat or gut it you must be getting pretty desperate.. I think for road cars somethings should be sacred, cats being one of them...

Sacred shmacred! If your on a limited budget and want to take the chance then go for it. Its not like most of our cars pass emissions anyway and if you can poison a few earth loving pedestrians along the way then why not.
