For people worried about using up food to make fuel, Australia's ethanol producers make cellulosic ethanol. This is made by breaking down the long chain cellulose molecules in the waste parts of the plant such as sugar cane stalks.

As far as I know all the edible bits of the plants are used for food still. If you want to check this make sure you are looking at Australian data, as Brazil and America make their ethanol differently.

Isn't it produced from molasses?

As in the stuff that they use for animal feed...but more importantly bundy rum :omg:

This is from the Biofuel assosiation of Australia:

"In Australia, ethanol is made from waste products as sugar cane, the waste from starch production, and red sorghum, so that there is no conflict with food production. With advancements in technology, other feedstocks are being developed such as cellulosic biomass, trees and grasses."

BAA

You are right that the CSR refinery uses molasses to make it's ethanol. They list that as a by-product from sugar processing. No idea what bundy rum is made from so you may be right about that.

Still id just stick to beer if I could get my fuel for $1/L :beerchug:
