100 cell and 200 cell has something to do with the flow rate of the cat. dont risk running no cat, they flow so well these days and the risk of the fines etc is not worth it.

100 cpi(cells per inch will flow better than 200cpi, but will be louder- correct me if im wrong?

the numbers, 100, 200..etc are the "cells per inch". Basically the higher the number, the more cells (squares) there are inside the cat, this restricting the airflow even more.

A gutted cat, in theory, would be 0 cpi (cells per inch) which would be the ultimate flowing cat I guess.

The highest flowing cat that I know of so far, and which I have installed, is a 100 cpi cat. I have the 5" body 100cpi ballistic cat on my car, with 4" ends on it.
