The only common sense approach with this is to limit anyone with less than 2 years full time driving experience to a maximum of 80kW. Whether the car be a 4,6,8 or turboed or not.

When will the government realise they can change the law and suppress people's driving rights for x amount of years, the bottom line is that if there is a desire to experience it, it will only come out later on. I don't believe "the urge" settles over time for anybody thrilled by getting behind the wheel. Then there are people who will just never have any skill or common sense at all - no amount of education or training can actually teach these people if they aren't interested in learning.

It's a tragic story, but what we don't need are more knee-jerk reactions by government to "fix" the problem of young (inexperienced?) driver mortality.

Take country's like Germany who are willing to spend money on driver-training, and require you to understand the basic componentry of a vehicle before getting behind the wheel - you will never see that here. We should also be teaching concepts, for example, such as oversteer and understeer and sideways friction.

Also, why doesn't our government spend a little money on "infrastructure" for young drivers to get their jolly's out?

Because they're actually more concerned with raising revenue and justifying their jobs then they are about doing the right thing by their constituents.

Absolutely, because it's fact that most fatalities don't actually have anything to do with the performance of the vehicle. What the authorities want us to believe and what the media actually report are very different though.

No, I did think about it. Stupidity is what gets people killed on the road, the power level of the car is irrelevant.

You only need to compare what learner riders are allowed to ride to understand where I'm coming from with respect to power output, as we're heading the same way with cars.

Inadequate brakes, out-dated technology, poor handling. These things tend to go hand-in-hand with being underpowered.

I agree that Stupidity is what gets people killed, also family culture is very important too. I think families should teach their youngsters about consequences of doing stupid stuff specially when they start to drive solo. if they fail to teach them so, then they must deal with the consequences.

Although I agree powerful cars dont kill people it makes people especially young males more inclined to push it too the limits or reach the limits easier.

I comes down to education and respect for what you have. But saying that any car will reach 130km/h and any car can kill in an accident.
